Aussie punk rockers Amyl and the Sniffers crashed into the Agora on Tuesday night, bringing their guitar-driven power pop/punk sound to the main stage. Frontwoman Amy Taylor led her quintet through a robust set of 21 tunes, providing a varied list of songs covering their catalog of tunes leaning heavily into last year’s effort Cartoon Darkness.
Guitarist Declan Mehrtens and drummer Bryce Wilson kept the beat going strong throughout the 80-minute show, keeping up with Taylor’s manic vocals.
After wrapping up eighteen tunes, the band made a brief exit, returning to the stage for a three-song encore. They finally ended the evening with a trifecta of tunes, “Big Dreams,” “GFY” then bringing it all to a close with a cover of John Williamson’s “Old Man Emu.”
Philly rockers Sheer Mag opened with frontwoman Christina Halladay’s raging vocals warming up the crowd. Think punk infused with a love for classic rock and you’ve approximated their sound. Keep an eye on this outfit; they shined pretty brightly the other night.
