It's a testament to the singer-songwriter's broad and slavish fan base that she can confidently tour to support an album closing in on its third birthday, 2000's Regrooving the Dream. In all fairness, Patty Larkin's current set is likely to be peppered with songs from her upcoming 2003 album, tentatively titled Tail of a Kite, so this jaunt won't be a total nostalgiafest. Even if it were, though, Larkin's rabid audience wouldn't care what she pulled from her nearly 20-year-old catalog. Part of her lasting appeal is that she refuses to pin herself to any single musical style, earning the respect of her fans by refusing to pander to their tastes. Although she grounds her sound in a folk foundation, she is unafraid to take risks with what she layers above it, throwing in elements of electronica, rock, and jazz over the course of her nine absorbing albums. Which means that whatever comes next for Larkin, it promises to be as unique as it is warmly received.
