Fandom216 is the first large-scale, sports-themed art exhibition in Cleveland in recent memory. This monumental undertaking is being presented simultaneously in three separate venues throughout Cleveland. Fandom216 will take place at Collinwood’s Waterloo Arts, 78th Street Studios’ HEDGE Gallery and Zygote Press. All three will host separate receptions throughout the month, but all three shows opened on Friday, Jan. 10 and close on Saturday, Feb. 20. Zygote Press will host a reception from 6 to 8 tonight. The programming culminates with a Super Bowl 50 Party and Chili Cook-off at Waterloo Arts from 2 to 4 p.m on Super Bowl Sunday, Feb. 7. Free.

Horror movie icons Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi teamed up for the first time for The Black Cat, a 1934 film from director Edgar G. Ulmer. Set in the aftermath of World War I, the movie centers on a couple whose honeymoon turns into a nightmare after its bus crashes in Hungary. Tonight at 7 and Sunday night at 8:30, the Cleveland Institute of Art Cinematheque shows a print from the Universal Pictures studio archive. Tickets are $10.

Tonight at 8 and tomorrow afternoon at 2 at the Hanna Theatre, Cleveland Jazz Orchestra and the Musical Theatre Project team up to present Curtain Up At The Cotton Club, a show that features music along with film, voice and dance presented by TMTP. The pitch: “Travel back to the days of Duke Ellington, Cab Calloway, Louis Armstrong and more who dominated the prohibition era speakeasy music scene.” The show features historical commentary, dance and music. Tickets are $25 to $50.
via flickr creative commonsWhen: Sat., Jan. 30 The visually dazzling Shen Yun is a truly unique performance troupe that brings to life 5,000 years of Chinese civilization through classical Chinese, folk and story-based dance. Shen Yun was founded in 2006 to revive ancient Chinese culture, which had been nearly destroyed by the Chinese communist government. Now with four companies, Shen Yun has given more than 400 performances in over 100 cities around the world. (Ironically, the dance troupe has yet to perform in China or Hong Kong.) Expect beautiful, vibrant costumes and exotic music you won’t hear anywhere else. Performances take place at 2 and 7 p.m. today and at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the State Theatre. Tickets are $60 to $150.
via ShenYun.comSat., Jan. 30 The 13th annual Standing Rock International Short Film Festival returns to the Kent Stage at 8 tonight. Producer Jeff Ingram has put together a truly international program featuring films from Istanbul, Czechoslovakia, and London and from as close as Kent, Ohio. It will include animation, music videos, short comedy, experimental films, documentaries and more. The silent films will feature live music accompaniment. Tickets are $10. This weekend, the Cleveland Convention Center hosts the Inaugural Cleveland Tattoo Arts Convention. The convention includes artists, vendors, special events, programming, tattoo contests and entertainment. Special guests include James Vaughn (Season 1 Finalist of Ink Master), Kyle Dunbar (Ink Master Seasons 3 & 4), Ali Baker (Best Ink), Aaron Is (Ink Master Season 5), Robbie Rippoll (Ink Master Season 5), Marshall Bennett, Takashi Matsuba (performing Tebori, traditional Japanese Hand Poke Tattooing) and Shanghai Kate. The event takes place from 2 p.m. to midnight today, from 11 a.m. to midnight tomorrow and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are $20 per day or $40 for a three-day pass. This guy talks about all sorts of things including Southern living, funny dialects and the way people relate to each other through language. Lots of this stuff isn’t your typical comedy, but the guy is downright funny. He appears at Hilarities at 8 tonight, and tickets range from $13 to $18.

But not for the party hearty people who run B-Side Liquor Lounge, the popular dance club located underneath the Grog Shop. Dubbed 7th Day Sweat, their weekly Sunday night soiree features DJ White Rims spinning “today’s hottest dance hits,” so you can “sweat it out” every Sunday. Admission is free but you must be 21 or older. It all starts at 7 p.m.When: Sat., Jan. 30 Sarah McKenzie currently lives and works as a painter in Boulder. However, she once served as an Associate Professor of Painting at the Cleveland Institute of Art. She returns to Cleveland for a two-week residency at Zygote Press, with support from a Soros-Colombel Edition Printmaking Award and a National Endowment for the Arts grant. Celebrate her homecoming with a special Free The Ink Artist Talk at Zygote Press today from 10 a.m. to noon. Free.
