The Canton Centre Mall, formerly Mellet Mall, was one of the many Ohio shopping complexes that thrived during the 80s and 90s, but slowly began losing tenants and eventually closed its doors during the early 2000s.

Though there have been several attempts to revitalize the old mall, to date, none have been realized. Currently, the space serves as more of a thruway (and an eye sore) between big boxers Walmart and JC Penny.
Here are some photos of the old mall, taken in December 2013, by photographer Nicholas Eckart.

If redevelopment of these fossils from another era was easy……
If they rebuilt this mall today it would look just like this in a few years, the reason it shut down in the first place was do to wannabe thugs and thieves using it as a hangout,,people will shop elsewhere if they have to worry about getting robbed or put up with wannabe hardasses around every corner.
I remember what a big deal it was to go to the mall – it was my favorite place ever! Remember the shoe store with the monkey in the back? And the lunch counter at Woolworth’s? Orange Julius, the movie theater, Camelot Music – we could spend a whole day in there and not get bored. Funny thing, I absolutely HATE to go to Belden!
