In honor of Women's History Month, every year Lakeland Community College’s Gallery Coordinator Mary Urbas presents an all-female exhibition of dozens of local, regional and national artists.
“In 2014, I welcomed 14 new artists to join the ongoing collection, representing New York, Oklahoma and New Mexico,” says Urbas. “This year, there are 15 new artists, mostly from Northeast Ohio and Columbus.”
This year’s From WOMAN VIII exhibition includes three dozen artists working in painting, pastels, textiles, jewelry, photography, sculpture, drawing, fused ceramic glass, assemblage, mixed media and more. Stop by the Gallery at Lakeland this Sunday, Mar. 22, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. for the artist reception and the Annual Woman of Achievement Awards Ceremony (Awards Ceremony starts at 2 p.m.)
For the second year, Urbas has also organized a number of all-female group and solo exhibitions throughout the region. Venues include Ursuline College’s Florence O’Donnell Wasmer Gallery, Beck Center for the Arts, various studios and galleries at 78th Street Studios, the Good Goat Gallery, Artists Archives of the Western Reserve, Loganberry Books Annex Gallery, Lake Metroparks Penitentiary Glen Nature Center and many more. For a complete, detailed list of venues and exhibitions, see
Lakeland’s website or contact the gallery for a copy of this year’s
gallery tour brochure.
“2014 was as a building year for this gallery tour, art walk event, with 16 venues participating,” explains Urbas. “This year it grew to 29 participating venues, so that folks could spend the month of March, seeing great artworks created by women, and meet these artists at the receptions. There are so many women artists living, working and showing their art in Northeast Ohio. This wealth of resources is inspiring!”
From WOMAN VIII and all related events are free and open to the public.
