Judge Joy Malek Oldfield

  • Judge Joy Malek Oldfield

Update II: A jury Thursday found public defender Catherine Loya guilty on a misdemeanor charge of having physical control of a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol.

But that’s not what the fun part of this case was. You remember, right? Oldfield was caught in the back of a car with Judge Joy Malek Oldfield engaging in some backseat lovin’. A cop discovered them, and his report became the basis for a salacious little scandal.

Well, Patrolman Thomas Ballinger testified during the one-day trial, and he went into salacious detail, which is all the jury needed. (And probably wanted.)

Via the ABJ:

Judge Joy Malek Oldfield was in the back seat of a small SUV parked outside a Ridgewood Road strip mall at 1:45 a.m.

Ballinger said that as he walked closer to the vehicle, the women moved with haste.

“I looked in the car and [Oldfield], the person I observed with her legs bent and laying with her back against the back seat, pulled her pants up from mid thigh and pulled down her blouse,” Ballinger told jurors.

[snip]

He determined the car occupants were “parkers,” a phrase police use for people who stop to park and talk or make out, he said. He then maneuvered his car and turned his spotlight on the vehicle and saw a head-popping motion, the judge fixing her clothes and both women moving to the front.

A “head-popping motion”? Details, Ballinger. More details. — Grzegorek

Update: Copley police have released a report on the arresting officer’s account of the night he arrested a public defender on DUI charges after he found her and an Akron judge inebriated and in a “state of undress” in the backseat of a car.

  1. Wow! Someone is a closet switch hitter!!!
One would think they’d have more sense being public servants and all…

  2. Sure nothing happened, that’s why she pleaded guilty when there was no physical evidence (i.e BAC, breathalizer…even a roadside test) of DUI.

  3. Who the heck cares? If it was a female judge and a male lawyer (or the other way around) this article would have flown completely under the radar. But it seems that simply because it’s two women, there is a garnering of interest around the same-sexness of the story.

Everyone has the right to live the life they choose, and this definitely isn’t the first scandal involving a public employee, especially in our area. Yawn.

  4. The whole United States of America and every other country is Corrupt. THE WORLD IS A GHETTO. Every form of Government, Federal, State/local, the Counties, and cities and most all their employees. The few that are good don’t count; If they did they would not longer have a Job. MOST of the good will not get hired, if they happen to slip through, it won’t be long before they are made to quietly slip out. F88K THIS WORLD AND EVERY ASSHOLE IN IT THAT IS CORRUPT!!!!!!!! YOU CAN START WITH THE BANKERS, FREAKIN THIEVES. LET THE WOMEN HAVE THEIR FUN; THE MEN DO!

  5. This is wrong on so many levels…. Judge Joy Oldfield is married with two children and Catherine Loya was the Public Defender assigned to Judge Oldfield’s Court. It is beyond unethical and for sure is immoral!
Judges are suppose to have some boundaries and are legal held to Judicial Cannons through the Ohio Supreme Court!
If the Judge wasn’t married and Catherine wasn’t the Public Defender assigned to her Court nobody would care that they wanted to get their freak on!! But, that isn’t the case. I feel bad for Judge Oldfield’s Husband and 2 young children – they are the innocent victims in this situation!

  6. Boy! Catherine Loya has a thing for bringing down powerful/sucessful/married woman.
When she was a Prosecutor at Juvenile Court she has an extra marital affair with Magistrate Maria Kostoff. She just so happened to be the Prosecutor assigned to Kostoff’s court room.

Magistrate Kostoff’s marriage ended in divorce and she lost custody of her daughter all because of her affair with Catherine Loya. Magistrate Kostoff was alleged to have had some serious trouble with prescription meds & alcohol during her relationship with Catherine Loya which caused her to lose her job as a Magistrate at the Juvenile Court – or, she was asked to resign.

Watch out girls! Catherine Loya is evil!

  7. Dang…Google image for Loya is a HORSEFACE!!!
you’d think at least she was hot…
    She’s not…
    Guuuh……
    I move on…

  8. This story might even get more attention on scene than the one about the lady in the car knocking the little guy out of the bow of her canoe while her friend held the laptop fantasy for her viewing pleasure. (I apologize in advance for this nasty post–don’t know what gets into me some times…maybe the Bud-Ice and cheap Vodka.)

  9. The reason why this is a big deal ISN’T because it’s two women involved. Pretty sure the reason why it’s such a big deal is because it involves a judge and a public defender. You know, because that sort of thing is generally frowned upon.

  10. Is this open for new comments? I see the 12 old ones, but is this from 09-21-12 now? Who gives a shit? It’s only me anyways and what I have to say is not really important. I ramble and make people call me an old and feeble man with no new fresh ideas to offer the readers of this news blog in my wonderful city of Cleveland. At least this clevescene outfit gives me what I desire–publication in real time and limited censorship.
So the story grows a new pair of legs and some clarification as to how many people there are in the canoe, yet it doesn’t add much to the original story. All I have to say is: ‘Loyla, I get down on my knees, Loya…..”

  11. Ah yes, good old fashioned funny business. Glad to see the updates, you read these stories and wonder how they turn out most of the time. And Kenny, who gives a crap what other people think? If you enjoy commenting on this site (and not being censored), then that’s all that counts. Always good to see the regulars on here alive and well!

  12. Why is she still a judge , She is very corrupted she gets to handle all the dirty work for the county that’s why she is a judge, She gets assigned the corrupted cases to do the unethical dirty work. The Akron court allows her to decide life or death . Akron courts may be the most corrupted courts in our nation’s

  13. She may have not dropped the ball in the night in question but she surely dropped the ball in a recent case where she took an 18 months plea agreement and gave a man 60 days do to mental defect. He is now being charged in twice raping a 3 year old girl with 2 more potential victims all while on community control and a tier 2 sex offender to boot. How’s that feel judge? Did u drop the ball and allow these babies to be raped. Hiw does that even happen. He was living with his mother and always had been and she was in turn running a home based daycare. Bunch of sick people out there. We need to clean up our judicial system.
