The Akron RubberDucks have dismissed one of their public address announcers after it came out that they'd given the job to a sex offender.
Spokesmen for the minor league baseball team would not comment on whether or not a background check had been performed before bringing on Scott Foster, a former Medina school teacher and convicted sex offender.
This decision to terminate Foster comes after our friends at the Akron Beacon Journal inquired about Foster's employment status with the RubberDucks, given that he'd been tried and convicted for making sexual advances toward two 13-year old girls at A.I. Root Middle School in Medina in 2004. Foster was sentenced to 180 days in jail, community service, and sex counseling, and was required to register as a sex offender for 10 years.
That requirement has since expired.
As of yesterday, the ABJ reports, Foster had not been made aware that he'd been terminated from his role.
"I’m not aware of the situation and I’m totally shocked,” he told them.
