Alex Cucu owned the boat off which 20-year-old Emma Nahas dived into Lake Erie and never surfaced. Her tragic death rocked the summer of 2010, with questions lingering about who was on the boat and how she drowned.

19 Action News has been all over the story from the beginning. Their coverage, which has continued throughout the winter, has focused on Cucu.

This month WOIO reported on the latest developments: a possible fine for Cucu and the imminent court date when he will face the judge on an assortment of charges, including providing alcohol to minors and boating under the influence.

Cucu is now suing 19 Action News for defamation of character.

Vince Grzegorek has been with Scene since 2007 and editor-in-chief since 2012. He previously worked at Discount Drug Mart and Texas Roadhouse.

  1. Its about time someone goes after this “network” for their news coverage.. They lack journalistic integrity, and are seemingly the Cleveland Enquirer – more tabloid tv than an honest media outlet..

  2. You sue someone when they report the WRONG information that is NOT fact. Things like “Cucu is due in Federal Court today to be sentenced by Judge Dan Polster.” Or, “On July 26th, Cucu pleaded guilty to possession of five or more false ID documents.” This is completely false and happened to be a guy that the same station, Channel 19 interviewed!! This is considered to be imputing a crime to another which is actionable. THAT IS HOW YOU SUE SOMEONE FOR MISREPORTING THE WRONG FACTS.
