BAYarts Faculty to Showcase Work Ahead of Annual Benefit

Before their annual benefit next weekend, BAYarts is taking an opportunity to celebrate its talented faculty artists. Outside the Classroom: BAYarts Faculty Show opens with a free reception this Friday, Sept. 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Dianne Boldman Education Gallery.

"This show represents the talent and diversity in BAYarts faculty,” says BAYarts Program Director Erin Stack. “We are fortunate to have instructors that bring so many different talents to BAYarts curriculum; with programs for 3 year olds on up to to adults of any age. Although every instructor may not be represented in the show, they all plan to be at the Opening to celebrate not only the works on the wall, but the relationships and partnerships they have built over the years."

Outside the Classroom showcases a variety of media including drawing, painting, photography, ceramics, jewelry, design and more. This spring, BAYarts opened a new, state-of-the-art ceramics facility on its campus on the Cleveland Metroparks’ Huntington Reserve.

"I went from teaching in our old damp basement to being in the glorious new, airy, beautiful Karen Ryel Pottery Studio, which is such a blessing,” explains Jessica Ramage, Ceramics Studio Assistant. “The growth of our ceramics department has been exponential over the past 3 years. It has been exciting and rewarding to witness this growth in students as well as the literal brick and mortar. I love our ceramics department and wouldn't change my gig for anything!"

Participating faculty include Moira Beale, John W. Carlson, Erin Schechtman Caruson, Randy Crider, Mary Deutschman, Ryan Patrick Finley, Al Fuchs, Jim Giar, Larry Kasperek, Beth Martin, Melissa Moon, Angela Oster, Allison Polgar, Jessica Ramage, Maryann Sedivy, Judy Takacs and Shari Wilkins.

"I teach my ‘Paint a Celebrity Artist’ Class at BAYarts to further my mission to paint a portrait of every single artist in Northeast Ohio,” says Cleveland-based painter Judy Takacs. “Ever since BAYarts opened their doors to me and hosted my ‘Chicks with Balls’ show in 2013, I've been their number one fan."

Additionally, Moondance tickets are on sale now. BAYarts’ annual benefit takes place Saturday, Sept. 12 from 6:30 to 10 p.m. Liz Maugans, Director and co-founder of Zygote Press and co-founder of the Collective Arts Network and its CAN Journal, will be honored as the evening’s 2015 Honoree. Tickets are $125 per person. The event includes more restaurants than ever, food trucks, wine pull, silent auction and more. Food vendors include Red Shamrock Food Truck, Pranzo Forno Wood-Fired Catering and Gitta’s Table and Wine Shop. This event sells out every year, and BAYarts warns that no tickets will be sold at the door. Get yours today.

Outside the Classroom remains on view through Oct. 3. Additional viewing hours available Mondays through Saturdays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (open until 8 p.m. Thursdays); closed Sundays.
