The dreaded Asian carp has found it's way into the Great Lakes. The 3-foot-long, 20-pound behemoth of a fish was found in Lake Calumet in Chicago, extremely close to Lake Michigan.
Apparently, this conniving fish made it past the electric barriers that had been constructed to keep it from ever entering the Great Lakes, simply brushing off the electricity that was coursing through its body. Officials say they will use "electrofishing and netting" to remove any Asian carp from the lake.
The Asian carp is known as an "invasive species," or a species that enters an environment and immediately interrupts or adversely changes the habitat they have entered. Officials say that if the Asian carp enters our Great Lakes, that it could "starve out" sport fish like salmon. Oh, and the carp can also swell to 100 pounds and 4 feet long. Better bring a harpoon if you are thinking about swimming in Lake Erie with these bad boys around!
