This year, shows will still take place outside the Transformer Station in Ohio City on Wednesdays throughout the month of July, but they’ll also migrate to other parts of the city.
The series commences on July 14 with Jupiter Bonkodji, a Kinshasa musician who weaves Congolese rhythms into contemporary African music. That concert will be part of the FRONT Public Opening Celebration. It takes place at Uptown in University Circle.
Sidi Touré, a musician who draws from Songhai music performs at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 18, at the Transformer Station, and the salsa band Orquesta el Macabeo performs there on July 25.
On Wednesday, Aug. 15, at Downtown’s Mall B, Cheick Hamala Diabate will fuse the traditional rhythms and vocals of his ancestors with the American sounds he’s absorbed during the past decade that he’s lived in the U.S.
Colombia’s M.A.K.U. Soundsystem will perform on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at the PNC Glenville Arts Campus, and Tel Aviv-based Gili Yalo will play at the Nord Family Greenway in University Circle on Friday, Sept. 7.
