The last time Scene reported on Cleveland actress Isabela Moner, she was a 7-year-old songbird performing with the Cleveland Pops Orchestra. Today, we're here to report that Moner, now 16, has been cast to play the titular role in the live-action adaptation of Dora The Explorer.

The Cleveland native has come a long way since her Cleveland Pops' performance, having starred in Transformers: The Last Knight, Growing Up Fisher, 100 Things To Do Before High School and lending her voice as 'Kate' in Dora and Friends: Into the City!

"We are thrilled to have found our Dora in Isabela,” Paramount Players president Brian Robbins said Wednesday in a statement. “Dora has long been a celebrated, strong heroine in animated television, and like Dora, Isabela has an incredible spirit and is an advocate for positive values. With our partners at Nickelodeon, we look forward to continuing Dora’s story for generations to come.”

Moner spoke with The Hollywood Reporter last week explaining what an honor it is to play Dora.

“I grew up watching the show, and for me, especially as a Latina, Dora was an amazing role model — she is a strong, adventurous and fun-loving girl," Moner said. "I can’t wait to put on the backpack and begin her next adventure.”

Moner is a native of the West Park neighborhood in Cleveland, and has performed with many of Cleveland's production organizations like the Beck Center for the Arts in Lakewood and Mighty Goliath Productions in Avon Lake.

The live-action Dora film is set to be directed by James Bobin and written by Nick Stoller, the duo behind 2011's The Muppets. The film is scheduled for an August 2019 release.
