The county today announced a further improvement as MetroHealth will expand health care in the facilities beyond what it was providing before. Notable in the U.S. Marshals’ report was a lack of proper medical staffing, training, ignorance of mental health issues and general mistreatment of prisoners.
The new agreement, per a press release, calls for:
• Providing services that meet the accreditation standards of the National Commission on Correctional Health CareThirty-two additional medical members will be added to the facilities.• Additional staffing levels in the areas of medical, behavioral and addiction services and pharmacy
• High quality medical staff recruitment and training
• Adherence to suicide triage and expanded mental health services
• Expanded Medically Assisted Treatment programming
• Development of a continuous quality improvement program
• Unified medical operations at the Euclid and Bedford jails
• Correctional Officers specifically assigned to the medical unit
• Development of performance-based metrics to track program outcomes
“I am very pleased to be able to announce this new agreement between the County and MetroHealth,” Armond Budish said in a statement. “MetroHealth has long been an invaluable partner in our work throughout the County and in the jails. These inmates are in our care and deserve to be kept safe and healthy. This new, comprehensive program will be a model for the country.”
If you’ll remember, MetroHealth went before Cuyahoga County council to lambast the jail’s medical operation, at least that which was not in the control of the hospital, last year. The nursing director, Gary Brack, who spoke at the meeting was removed from his position thereafter, directly as a result of Budish’s personal intervention, according to Cleveland.com.
“To have MetroHealth take over total control of the medical care at the County Jail has been a goal for many years,” Councilman Michael Gallagher added in the statement. “The council worked hard to get to this point and would like to thank Dr. Boutros for staying with us through some difficult times. I’d also like to thank the entire MetroHealth community and all the leaders throughout the hospital system in providing these much-needed services.”

I wonder how many millions in kickbacks will be handed out this time around???
With the average increase of 40% on our outrageous recent property tax bills, Budish and his cronies will have millions more to waste now!!!
Its time Budish was on the recall ballot, along with Taxin Jackson, and they both be sent to jail for their constant financial mismanagement of taxpayer money and never ending shenanigans!!!
This place is literally a hell on earth. The things uncovered in that federal report should have everyone associated with that shit hole hanging their heads in shame. Nobody is asking for jail to be a paradise, but feeding prisoners food contaminated by bugs and rodents, withholding food and water as punishment, the lack of staff causing unsafe conditions for both guards and prisoners alike, the complete and utter air of indifference found amongst most of the shitheels that work there (I use work in the loosest possible sense, most of the guards do nothing but sleep through their shifts and actually get upset when they’re disturbed) the permissive and preferential treatment of gang members, the lack of both personal hygiene and medical care, is disgusting to anyone with an ounce of humanity left in their souls. Clearly that doesn’t apply to the people in charge of this despicable farce, if they ever had souls they sold them long ago in the name of greed and expediency. I had a friend die in there as a result of their willful ignorance and indifference. These scumbags should be forced to spend time there as inmates, I gurantee shit would never be the same after that. I hope the federal government comes in there with a large broom and uses it to sweep away the lying, poor excuse for human beings that run this place and then shoves it up their collective asses.
Isnt this the hospital that fired the whistleblower when he outed the lack of medical care being provided prisoners in the jail?
