Maybe you've pledged to hit the gym more and drink less. Perhaps you're trying to keep your eyeballs off your phone and social media so much. You definitely want to call your mom more often, read more books, volunteer, start putting a bigger chunk of your paycheck (read: anything) into your savings account, be nicer, answer texts promptly, figure out what the hell blockchain is, etc.
It's resolution season, that (brief) spirited time of the year where we prod ourselves toward transformation and self-improvement in the hopes we'll be slightly less shitty versions of ourselves before giving up and slamming two Baconators and polishing off a six pack while live tweeting whatever's on TLC at the moment.
There's always the hope and promise that something will stick, however, and for Dan Gilbert, there's apparently just one thing. The Detroit Free Press rounded up resolutions from notable local luminaries from That State Up North and the Cavs owner/Quicken Loans founder/taxpayer-money-lovin' fella offered up what he was hoping to accomplish in 2018.

It's worth nothing that while Gilbert has no actual responsibility to respond to reporters, his vast influence and empire, with all its commingled interplay with the public's business (here and in Detroit), beg for transparency and communication. After all, his businesses are on the receiving end of hundreds of millions of dollars of public funds, and when it comes to shaping the present and future of two major Midwestern cities, few lay claim to the level of power Gilbert wields.
Which is why it was nice to see him so forthcoming in interviews with Crain's Detroit about the city's bid for Amazon's HQ2, a pitch which the billionaire helped lead. It's also why it was entirely disconcerting to witness Gilbert's silence on the planning of and acrimony surrounding the Q Transformat ion Project.
We're all for hearing more from Danny G in 2018, even if some reporters who've been on the receiving end of his incendiary, late-night tirades might disagree. In that vein, we checked in with Gilbert today with the following note:
We've yet to hear back, which means he might be keeping strong with his resolution so far, which is more than most of us can say.
