Industry Vets to Open Ambitious Flats Music Club

It seems that the West Bank of the Flats is getting in on that neighborhood's growth spurt. The Nautica Entertainment Complex now has a new tenant lined up for the former Club Coconuts space next to Shooters. The Music Box Supper Club, the brainchild of owner's Mike and Colleen Miller, will bring a split-level live entertainment venue to the former waterfront nightclub.

"The supper club will add synergy to the complex," says Mike Miller. "Cleveland invented rock and roll and we feel it's time for a new style of venue."

With a strong grasp on the live entertainment business, both of the Millers are marketing and promoter veterans. Mike, a Cleveland Heights native, is a seasoned marketer with years of success working for a big firm in Chicago. His wife, Colleen, spent almost 20 years as a live music and festival promoter throughout greater Chicago. Additionally, in the early 90s, the couple owned and operated a popular rock club in Chicago's North Shore that hosted musicians like Buddy Guy and the Allman Brothers.

The pair returned to Cleveland to start planning their dream space. "Bands need to tour to make money, and they are looking for unique venues," adds Mike. "The Music Box will have great food, comfortable setting, and marvelous views."

Music Box Supper Club will not stick to one genre, but rather a full panoply of musical styles. "You will see every genre type of national touring bands," says Miller.

The two-level venue will host larger shows upstairs and more intimate supper club-style shows on the first floor. "We have a second floor two-story concert hall that can hold up to 300 people," says Miller.

Both the food and cocktail menu, as well as the chef, are in the works. Current plans include an emphasis on brunch, waterfront drinking and dining, and a rooftop garden.

"We are vetting some great culinary talent to complement our wide range of music," says Miller.

Look for an opening in the spring of 2014.
