The Mandel/Brown race has been contentious enough, but even more so amongst Cleveland’s east-side Jewish population, torn between the Democrat and the homegrown east-side Jewish boy running against him.

It shouldn’t even be a race, but those nostalgic sentiments are still overriding common sense in some folks.

Not Josh Mandel’s family however. Below, an open letter his cousins published in the Cleveland Jewish News today calling out Josh for his anachronistic views on gay marriage and gay equality. Thanksgiving is going to be awkwaaaard.

  1. I said it before and will say it again. Josh Mandel is a total Douche-Bag Political Hack, that will do or say anything he thinks will get him elected!

  2. Todd Akin + Richard Mourdock + Michael Bachman + Sarah Palin + Newt Gingrich + Rush Limbaugh + Glenn Beck + Larry Craig + Mitt Romney + I’m not a witch, Christine O’Donnell + Ann Coulter + all the fox spin-news anchors + equals The Modern GOP Republican Party.

Good Luck winning with these… More

  3. Josh has drank of the brainwashing Kool-Aid that the Party serves at their satanic gatherings. He knows that the only way to get their money is to say what they want and, by doing so, possibly come to believe it. Look at how much the Republican party changed John McCain when he was running for president. Almost unrecognizable to who he really was. Same here. Josh wasn’t always a douche bag. Sadly, that is the costume he’s currently wearing.

  4. I disagree with Mandel on this issue, but gay rights is far from the list of the most critical issues in this election. I don’t think it’s about free contraception either (apologies to my Democratic friends). Minor stuff like swelling deficits ($16 trillion and growing), jobs, the economy, national defense, Iran, etc. are things that I focus on.

Character is an important element also, and even if I disagreed with a Cousin on an issue that was important to me, I wouldn’t call him or her out in public. I’d keep it in the family. I certainly wouldn’t do anything to jeopardize his or her chances of winning an important election over an issue like this.

  5. The election of Josh Mandel would be an embarrassment to the wonderful state of Ohio. We need men like Sherrod Brown in the Senate. Maybe when Mandel loses, he will manage to spend some time on his job for which he was elected.

  6. I was told by a source that Josh & his wife tried three times to give birth by EF, I think that’s a form of abortion.

  7. Kudos to these cousins. This is a very classy way of dealing with the shame and embarrassment of being related to Josh Mandel.

  8. I encourage Josh Mandel to stand is ground, for what he believes in. God, is more important than pleasing man/woman and will honor him. Love your family and forgive them.

  9. Let People Live how they want to live, Let gays marry, let woman have their rights and let us be a free country. You people are no effected by others loving each other or giving each other a fighting chance for a future of no suffering.

  10. Mandel doesn’t believe anything he spots, like Mitt he’ll say anything to get a vote, Prey that his defeat ends his career, period

  11. Whether you like Josh Mandel or not, it is pretty sleazy of his relatives (in-laws) to publicly call him out. What a crappy family!!!!

  12. Freedom of speech and debate is a right. The new-age republican party is told what to believe by Citizens United and Grover Norquist and tons of other Koch suckers. When Josh signed on with the party he gave up his freedom to think for himself. I respect him for his days as a Jar-Head and his Iraq duty….but not much else seems real or sincere about him…but then I am very bias and support Sen Brown and Connie for their honesty and service to the state of Ohio and our fine city of Cleveland. I quit reading the PD when it seemed to be caving to the right. I kind of miss Regina Brett and the cartoonist…maybe I’ll start reading it again after the election.

  13. I disagree…I think his family had the right idea in calling him out. If he is going to say things that hurt family members..shame on him. Is he only saying these things to win an election? Or is this what he really believes in his heart of hearts. If he is only saying it for the election..then hell yes, call his ass out.

If this is what he believes in his heart of hearts, then they need to pray for him.

  14. What a classy family those Ratners are. Family isssues are private matters. Amazing, how they can chastise Josh for his lack of tolerance when they can’t respect his opinions. Typical hypocritical liberals.
I would think that the Jewish community has more pressing issues that require political support than same-sex marriage.

  15. Tolerance of intolerance and bigotry isn’t required 🙂

And we see what that got them, hmm? A LOSS! ^_^
