LeBron Murals are Already Overtaking the Walls of Los Angeles

The above is the new LeBron James mural in Los Angeles, Calif, (not Detroit-Shoreway!). It shows James, clad in Lakers gold, gazing at some of the franchise's greats. From L-R: Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O'Neal, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabar and Wilt Chamberlain.

Presumably, this new mural will be more favorably received by Lakers fans than the mural that went up last week, in Venice, Calif. That one crowned James the "King of L.A." and was promptly vandalized.

James signed a four-year $154 million deal with the Lakers to kick off NBA free agency earlier this month. He was joined, in short order, by an assortment of weird and volatile non-shooters: Lance Stephenson, Rajon Rondo and JaVale McGee. Alongside second-year players Lonzo Ball, Kyle Kuzma and NBA Summer League First-Teamer Josh Hart, the Lakers sure will be an interesting team to watch next year.

It's reasonable that fans of the storied Lakers, second only to the Boston Celtics in total NBA championships, would resent the crowning of a new King from lowly Akron, Ohio — never mind that LeBron is the greatest basketball player of all time — but we suspect the haters won't take long to convert.
