“There’s not a chance I’d let him into one of my restaurants,” the celebrity chef said with laughter during a phone interview with 92.3 The Fan Thursday morning.
Originally calling in to defend the communal seating at Mabel’s, his new BBQ restaurant on East 4th Street, Symon shared how he really felt about the businessman-turned-politician when the topic turned to potential parties during the RNC.
“I come from a mixed political family, which is always fun around this time of the world,” he said. “I’ve been fortunate – or unfortunate – enough to meet him through the years. And I’m not gonna lie, he creeps me out a little bit.”
When asked by 92.3 The Fan’s Matt Dery about whether or not he’s concerned that his anti-Trump comments could turn off potential patrons, he doubled down on his comments.
“Anybody that knows me knows that I’m not afraid to speak my mind. This isn’t a Democratic/Republican thing, trust me. It’s just a ‘he creeps me out’ thing.” You can listen to the full interview below.

To everybody calling this ‘discrimination,’ you’re wrong. Discrimination involves treated someone differently based solely on a “group, class, or category” to which that person belongs. It specifically means you are treating them differently because of one of those memberships, and NOT based on individual merit.
What Michael Symon is doing here is the exact opposite of discrimination. He is refusing service to a patron because of that individual patron’s previous behavior. It’s not a double standard, it’s not discrimination, it’s not illegal. He’s fully within his legal rights. You may not agree with him, and that’s fine. But he’s not discriminating.

I don’t think a lot of you understand how laws regarding discrimination work. “Being Donald Trump” is not a protected “class”. Sexual orientation, race, religion… these are protected classes. There is a reason that businesses are allowed to refuse service to individual patrons based on their behavior. For example, if someone is causing a disturbance at a bar, the owner can kick him out. It’s not “discrimination” because he’s not being kicked out because he’s a member of a protected class, he’s being kicked out for being an ass. This guy can bar an individual from their restaurant because they don’t like the way that individual behaves and that is NOT illegal. He doesn’t like the behavior Trump shows and doesn’t want that disruption in his restaurant? Not illegal.
Most of you people need to check the law books. You cannot deny service to someone because of his or her race, color, religion, national origin or disability, but you can if you don’t like them or simply because you think they are a major buffoon. Trump clearly falls under both categories for this restaurant owner.

I have been to his restaurants, and was not impressed, my husband wanted to go and my sons, so they finally talked me into it, it is pig slop, would never go back, the service was slow, and the food average, had better.
