Spin caught up with The Black Keys, who may have ditched Akron for Nashville but who haven’t wandered far from Northeast Ohio’s heart.

Dan and Pat have recorded their seventh album and are in the midst of mixing and mastering over the summer before the disc drops later this year.

“It’s the fastest we’ve ever played,” Dan Auerbach told Spin. “The new album doesn’t sound like Brothers. It doesn’t have that open soul feel to it. It’s way more driving and the tempos are really fast.”

Danger Mouse produces once again, and Auerbach says the album, which is not yet titled, draws inspiration from “the Clash, the Cramps, and old rock’n’roll, rockabilly, and garage rock records,” according to the article. Click on over for a full dose of updates.

Vince Grzegorek has been with Scene since 2007 and editor-in-chief since 2012. He previously worked at Discount Drug Mart and Texas Roadhouse.
