And in 2019, Mentor’s Rich Roesch has won the World Horseshoe Championship, turning in a stunning undefeated performance in Wichita Falls, Texas, earlier this month.
The News-Herald has the full story of how Roesch, relatively new to the competition, went 15-0 in a round robin tournament in the “K1 division” at the National Horseshoe Pitchers Association World Tournament. The annual event brings together top horseshoers from all 50 states, Canada, Germany and Norway.
The 63-year-old Roesch absolutely smashed his competition. The consistency of his tosses was “crazy amazing,” according to his wife Maureen. The man was a machine. He was unconscious out there. No one stood a chance. The second-place finisher in his division was some chump from Texas, who went 13-2, losing to Roesch and one other competitor.
The victory is a leap forward for Roesch, who competed in last year’s tourney held in South Carolina, at which he went 7-8. He told the News-Herald that he was calm and collected under pressure in Wichita Falls.
“I said, ‘Don’t think about what you’re doing. You know what to do. You’re at the Worlds. Have fun,’” Roesch told the paper. Let’s get Disney involved pronto.
