- Should that plane be in use? It looks pretty old
The Ohio License Bureau is head over heels for its second place victory in the recent "Best New License Plate" competition put on by the Automobile License Plate Collectors Association. Ohio's "Beautiful Ohio" plate became the state's standard plate on June 7 after debuting in November of last year. Cincinnati.com reports that Oklahoma took first place honors, beating our scene of a vast Ohio landscape, complete with a barn, bridge, plane and rising sun, all the Ohio essentials. Oklahoma's winning plate shows a Native American aiming his bow and arrow at a giant cloud, because we all know that's where birds like to hang out.
As it turns out, only eight states produced new plates last year. Which means Ohio beat six states. Woo-hoo.
Man, that's some tough love. Dyer doesn't seem to think our plate deserves second place. Apparently the depiction of a picturesque morning with the Wright brothers flying overhead doesn't do it for him.
From point-blank range, Ohio's plate looks a lot better. It's still too busy, but at least you can identify the myriad pieces-parts. The problem is that when you get more than a few feet away — as in any time you're driving down the road — the plate looks like a nondescript, pastel blob.
But hey, second place is second place. And if Dyer thought our plate was bad, just check out Canadian province New Brunswick's submission.
