Berkman (amidst divorce proceedings, originally reported by The Cauldron) would like to live downtown, he’s said, and the University would like to be rid of the annual lease and maintenance costs. So it’s a win for everybody.
Karen Farkas at the NEOMG reported that Berkman would be the first president in CSU’s history — the school was founded in 1964 — not to live in Shaker Heights.
But who knows how quickly the home will sell? Berkman has said he will remain at the Eaton Road residence until it does — it’s currently valued at more than $800,000 via a university spokesman — and then will become one of the 12,500+ who now call downtown Cleveland home.
The state of Ohio currently owns former CSU President Michael Schwartz’s home, also in Shaker Heights, and intends to put that one on the market too. It’s been vacant for some time.

I wonder where he’ll move to??
Well, let us tell you. He is moving to The 9s on Euclid Ave to rent a new penthouse. He is spending $70,000 of CSU-related funds to remodel this rental, while poor CSU students grovel to figure out how they will pay next semester’s tuition. His $500,000 house in Shaker (that was remodeled for $1,000,000) served as a love nest for he and his most recent wife, Patsy Bilbao Berkman — until she split the big C, heading back to the snow-free and Ron-free confines of Miami FL.
Maybe this new love nest will be suitable for he and his on-the-side gal-pal from the lab school.
