Update III: It’s all official now. The press release from CBS Radio this morning confirms 92.3 The Fan will launch on August 29 with a lineup like we already told you about: NFL games from Westwood One (in addition to Big 10 football), Kiley and Booms in the morning, and more.
In the release, new program director Andy Roth says, “What we are launching is literally a radio station for ‘The Fan.’ For Clevelanders who live and breathe sports 24/7 this will be the place to get the best insight, most in-depth coverage and a well-rounded balance of listener participation all presented in an entertaining forum.”
What he didn’t say but wanted to: “Good luck, WKNR, filling time on Sundays when everyone else is listening to the Browns or us. Maybe 11 straight hours of Chris Fedor’s fantasy tips or Michael Reghi reading from his thesaurus will work. Ha.”

Update II: We’ve heard, and it’s been all but confirmed, that Kevin Kiley and Chuck Booms will pair up for the morning show on 92.3 The Fan. They had a show on Fox Sports, and have both worked in a variety of markets over the years. A name has been rumored for the afternoon, but we haven’t confirmed anything yet. One hint: Bull.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!
Eyyyyyyup…Alternative radio just died in CleOh…Just another nail in the coffin for terrestrial radio…All because corporate radio doesn’t give a 2 sh*ts about local programming and sponsorship…Thankfully there are stations like 1073 still out there…
I gave up on terrestrial radio years ago and haven’t looked back. SiriusXM’s XMU is where it’s at.
Go Radio!
Audiobooks FTW!
Wait, I don’t mean F*** the world. Please don’t ban my comment like a license plate.
Radio? Who still listens to radio?
I love local sportstalk on my radio…in my car & in my office as my work day unfolds. I don’t like the condescending way WKNR has been treating their “monopoly” for years! Aaron G., Rizzo, Brinda (who has been fired several times and must have pictures of GM Keith Williams in lingerie or something to still have a job in this market), Fedor and Reghi/Roda ALL pretty much SUCK and treat callers like S _ _ _! When they take any calls. They treat the station like a national show and just ramble & repeat themseves OVER & OVER! I did just hear Aaron lie about how it was “their idea” to change their voice over guy??!! I think CBS might have had something to do with that, Swirly-boy! It is still hard to believe that Aaron actually BRAGGED about getting “swirlied” multiple times in high school! Who would brag about that? I guess we know why he is so bitter and has to hang up on most callers, bash the hell out of OSU, be negative as a rule and just plain sucking! Unless you want to hear about his Dad or Denver…why would anyoe listen?
I’m glad that Cleveland is getting aother sportstalk station, sad that it’s 92.3 but I’m glad I don’t have to listen to Goldhammer, Rizzo and Fedor anymore.Thank you CBS.
This station has changed so many times over the years I’ve lost track. The ones I’ve witnessed:
Jammin’ 92.3
92.3 – The Beat
92.3 – Extreme Radio
..and then, whatever the heck it was after they took the rock away. 🙁
Fail .. .Way to ruin the Cleveland market again.
“A simple binary code transmitted by carrier wave signal. Radio.”- Mr. Spock.
This is absolutely terrible! There r plenty of stations here that talk sports! Where the hell r the alternative radio fans going to tune in to to hear great music with very little commericals? This is stupid and ridiculous. I hate these assholes that do things for their own selfish reasons. You ppl suck BALLs
