This week, host Craig Lyndall sat down with staff writer Sam Allard to hit the week’s newsiest news.

Our cover story on Paul Pelton, the so-called Nightcrawler of Lorain who videotaped a grisly crash scene involving two teens, who the media painted as a man who wanted to sell the footage to local TV stations, and the true story behind the headlines.

– 19 Actions News’ announcement that the station will drop the action news format and focus on more quality (and positive) journalistic efforts.

– The wide-ranging discussion, hosted by the City Club, on the future of the lakefront in Cleveland, which is something we always seem to talk about but never get any action on.

One reply on “Scene Podcast: The Nightcrawler of Lorain, 19 Action News Drops the Action News, and Cleveland Talks About the Lakefront (Again)”

  1. Channel 19 actually started Action News in 2002 (a year after Bill Applegate arrived as GM), and became 19 Action News in 2003. They were 19 News when it started news back in 1995, then became CBS 19 News in 1996 and later Hometeam 19 News in 2000. None of those three were ratings successes.

19 gained traction in 2004 when its 11pm news beat out NewsChannel 5 for second place, and made a lot of press during that period. They would soon tone down the style and format when Romona Robinson arrived in 2012, and when Sharon Reed left around the same time.

Now it will be a full-blown format change. Most of the current Action News staff will remain with the new Cleveland 19 News.
