Ken Lanci, the guy who lost the mayoral election to Frank Jackson and got Plain Dealer reporters all hot and bothered with his choice of automobile, is actually running with the idea of starting up his own newspaper. It's a notion that he first splashed across the cover of our illustrious rag, proffering a hodgepodge of Scripture and conservative rallying cries in the inky columns of The Lanci Tribune.
As Erick Trickey reports, ads have cropped up in Ohio's major cities for freelance (freelanci?) journalists.
(UPDATE: Nick Castele at WCPN pointed out Wednesday morning that those ads had expired.)
The thing is, Lanci claims to want to "focus...on what the government is or is not doing and the impact it has on the people as well as business." And that may be an earnest goal, but look: The first "edition" of The Lanci Tribune featured an endorsement of Lanci's own mayoral campaign. He publicly takes Plain Dealer reporters to task for blindly following Jackson (OK, fair), but then takes a pass on any pretense of journalistic integrity.
...Which would all be, you know, whatever, but now he's taking what could have been a one-off campaign gag to terrifying new heights.
