A racist slur was spray-painted on a Painesville home this weekend — before the new owners even moved in. Neighbors found the message, “No n———” scrawled in larger letters across the family's garage door Saturday morning in the Liberty Greens neighborhood.

Neighbors told 19 Action News that racist messages like this don’t happen in the city’s subdivision. “This is 2015, not a Jim Crowe neighborhood. This breaks my heart," Patricia Kidd, a neighbor and resident who works at the Fair Housing Resource Center, said.

Painesville Police are still trying to identify who is responsible for the vandalism. While the police investigate, the neighbors are coming together to wash the message clean in time for the new homeowners to arrive. The family is moving in "soon" according to 19 Action News.
