Stroup, who describes himself as “a sentimental person who cherishes friends, experiences and the beauty he sees in the world,” has just collected a slew of his best photos in his new book, Abandoned Cleveland. The newest addition to the America Through Time series from Arcadia Publishing and the History Press, the book uses imagery to detail our fine city’s boom and bust, growth and decay.
At 7:30 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 8, Visible Voice Books will host a book launch party with Stroup.
“It’s only fitting we celebrate this book in Tremont, a reimagined neighborhood in the shadows of Cleveland’s once-booming steel mills,” explains Visible Voice owner Dave Ferrante in a press release about the event. “If you look closely at these haunting photographs, you can still make out some of the city’s glory. I think that’s more inspiring than disheartening. These images serve as a reminder of what we were, what we are and what we can still achieve as a community.”
The Abandoned Cleveland launch party will take place during Walkabout Tremont. Admission is free, and there will be food, beverages (including $3 beer and $6 wine) and books available for purchase.
