Some of you may have seen that Goodyear unveiled a sleek new state-of-the-art blimp in Akron on Friday. The airship, built by a team of U.S. and German engineers, is bigger, faster and more maneuverable than its predecessors and will officially go into service this summer. The best part is, we get to name it.
More accurately, one clever person who submits the winning entry in the Goodyear "Name the Blimp" contest gets to name it. And Scene can't suggest strongly enough that you go get roaring drunk today and submit your entry later this evening.
The contest winner will enjoy a "day of airship activities." Nine runners-up will win a complete set of new Goodyear tires (which we could all use, given the condition of Northeast Ohio's roads this winter).
This is only the second time a blimp has been named as the result of a "consumer naming contest." Back in '06, the "Spirit of Innovation" was selected from more than 20,000 entries. That blimp now operates out of Florida.
Here's hoping the Spirit of Innovation (and creativity) strikes you alongside your St. Paddy's day spirit.
And here's a mind-blowing time-lapse video of the blimp under construction.
