When Cedar Point opens for its new season May 5, the cost of admission will be $5 more than last year. The new walk-up price of $72 per adult ticket is still less than entry to places like Disneyland and The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, but a family of four could now need to fork out nearly $300 for a day of fun in Sandusky.

It should also be noted that these prices are on top of paying to park in a Cedar Point parking lot or stay at a nearby resort/hotel.

Thankfully, the park offers lower prices online and does offer seasonal deals frequently. Currently, its website features a pre-season deal offering $45 kid-priced tickets for all.

Potentially contributing to the upping of the ticket cost is the park’s newest attraction, Steel Vengeance, which is an updated hybrid version of the Mean Streak.

As we previously reported, the new ride includes a 205-foot first drop and tops out at 74 miles per hour. The coaster is set to break an astounding 15 combined world, hybrid and park records.

  1. While people whine on about ticket prices, you shouldn’t neglect to note on average an Intamin steel coaster (ie Millennium Force) costs about $25M to design and build. A Bolliger & Mabillard coaster (ie Valravn, Gatekeeper etc) cost up to $35M to build. A RMC conversion to a coaster like Mean Streak costs in excess of $10M (likely to be much higher for CP’s record breaker) on a coaster that initially cost almost $8M. Then think about how many coasters are in the park (the most of any amusement park). Not to mention all the flat rides, etc.

  2. As far as the cost to build new rides, well, it isn’t our fault that they were built. We, the people, didn’t ask for new rides. So now we have to pay the price of the new rides? NOT, not if we aren’t gonna go any more.
I know I’m not going, not at that price.

  3. Abusement parks are great fun for many people, but not for me at those inflated rates. What the hell do they think they are offering…Disneyland? Throw in the food and the mandatory parking lot fees (it’s on a peninsula, folks) and it gets pretty pricey for what you get..

So I didn’t go for years, until the Red Cross gave out free tickets last summer for donating blood. Maybe I’ve just gotten too old (and poor) to go anymore… or did the park get smaller?

Sure felt like it. Honey, they shrunk Cedar Point!

  4. The park is expensive but you are able to locate discount admission tickets at stores and hotels or AAA if you are a member. Food prices are outrageously high, so pack food like sandwiches or get a pizza or bucket of chicken to eat in the parking lots then re enter the park afterwards.
