Update: The director/screenwriter of The Shaswhank Redemption will now be on hand for this year’s 25th Anniversary festival in Mansfield, Ohio. Oscar nominee Frank Darabon is joining a list of talented actors from the film (so far still minus the main two) for the event’s panel discussions and more.

(Original story 3/7/2019): Everyone’s favorite prison movie, The Shawshank Redemption, is turning 25 this year. In honor of the milestone, film fanatics can make the trek to Mansfield, Ohio, where the cult classic was filmed, the weekend of Aug. 16-18 for a huge celebration.

Since 1994, the hope-filled film has brought curious fans out to places like the  Ohio State Reformatory and other nearby haunts to get a glimpse behind the scenes. But this summer’s big event includes not just a self-guided Shawshank Trail driving tour, but also a 7K family fun run, a film screening and even a meet-and-greet with many of the film’s actors.

We still don’t know if Morgan Freeman or Tim Robbins will make appearances, but the list of actors who are so far scheduled to attend isn’t shabby at all and includes:
Bob Gunton (Warden Norton)
William Sadler (Heywood)
Mark Rolston (Bogs)
Frank Medrano (Fat Ass)
Alfonso Freeman (Red’s Mugshot and a Fresh Fish Guy)
Scott Mann (Glenn Quentin)
Renee Blaine (Linda Dufresne)
Claire Slemmer (Bank Teller)

  1. My husband and I moved to Colorado and were looking so forward to flying out for the Shawshank Anniversay in August 2019. Imagine our very sad surprise how MUCH it cost to be there and buying tickets for different events. It’s a shame that it will cost to much for MANY fans who would love to be a part of this but can’t. That includes us. Too bad this couldn’t of been more cost effective for the the true fans.
