Todd Rundgren will perform his 1973 album, A Wizard, a True Star, in its entirety for the first time ever in Akron on September 6.
Even though Rundgren’s previous album, Something/Anything?, is a better record, Wizard has its fans. It’s a particularly crucial album in Rundgren’s long career because it’s one of his first truly experimental works (it also includes songs like “Rock & Roll Pussy” and “Just Another Onionhead,” for what it’s worth).
The concert could be totally cool (given the songs’ way-out-there psychedelic vibe) … or it could be a complete bust (given the songs’ way-out-there psychedelic vibe).
Some of the tracks — like “Just One Victory” — have been included in Rundgren’s live sets over the years, but this will be the first time he’s ever performed the whole record, from start to finish and in order, onstage.
Rundgren and his band will also perform some of his other songs before playing A Wizard, a True Star.
The concert starts at 8 p.m. on September 6 at the Akron Civic Theatre. Tickets start at $50 and can be purchased here and here. —Michael Gallucci
