Cedar Point's New Ride Delayed, Again

Cedar Point's new ride, the Windseeker, will not be ready for riders when the park opens on May 14. Standing 30-stories high, the ride (which we'll just call "Nightmare Fuel") is like those regular swing rides you've seen at kiddie parks with a couple notable exceptions: you'll be 300 feet in the air and spinning along at 30 mph. See, nightmare fuel.

The park announced on a conference call that Northeast Ohio's string of crappy "Spring" weather means the Windseeker isn't quite finished yet, according to the Sandusky Register. It seems nonstop rain, storms, and high winds are not conducive to safely building amusement park rides.

Unlike last year, when Cedar Point's "Shoot the Rapids" ride was delayed extensively, Windseeker's debut will only be pushed back a week or two. Cedar Fair CEO and President Dick Kinzel says, "I think we're talking, at the latest, Memorial Day."

That holiday weekend will mark another milestone, incidentally: Cedar Point will no longer hold the record for most roller coasters on that date after Six Flags Magic Mountain "reopens its 17th coaster (Road Runner Express) and debuts its 18th roller coaster, Green Lantern: First Light. The 4-D coaster will feature a never-before-seen vertical zigzag pattern track, with eight riders sitting back-to-back in an independently rotating passenger vehicle."
