Silver and gold party streamers hung from the entryway and a rowdy bunch grooved to “Cha Cha Slide” in unison as they dodged glitter-filled balloons on the dance floor.

Every Spring, high school students on the verge of graduating all look forward to the pomp, circumstance and memories that come along with the senior prom.

The Cleveland Public Library posed the question, ‘Why should teenagers get to have all the fun?’ and hosted a prom for older adults at the Addison branch in the St. Clair – Superior neighborhood.

Most of the people in attendance came from New Avenues To Independence, which is a care facility in the area.

Staff members served as deejays for the mid-afternoon event, playing songs like The Village People’s “Y.M.C.A.” and Bill Withers’ “Lovely Day.”

Refreshments included a few boxes of pizza and ice cold sodas.

A few party animals wore eyeglasses made from dayglow sticks. There was a crafting activity that allowed everyone to make miniature disco balls to take home with them.

Instead of having individual prom kings and queens, names were drawn from a hat to crown Prom Royalty.
