Machine Gun Kelly, megaphone in hand, hushed the crowd last night. The televisions in the back room of the Barley House were turned to the BET Hip-Hop awards, where Kelly was set to be featured in one of the programs “cyphers,” a pre-recorded video where a group of five MCs each raps for 30 seconds or so.

The room of about 50 people was silent as Kelly recited his verse, but when he finished, it exploded into thunderous applause.

Celebrating his debut on national TV, as well as the upcoming release of his latest mixtape, Machine Gun Kelly jumped up on the bar and jiggled around the dance floor like Flubber before getting serious to play a sneak peak of RagePack for his audience.

His first release since Lace Up last year, RagePack is a mix of head-banging, liquor-induced anthems and heartfelt, soul-searching ballads.

Standout tracks include the Adele-sampled “Chasing Pavement” and “One More Time,” the two tracks epitomizing the width of Kelly's material.

A voicemail left on Kelly's phone by his new boss P. Diddy — which appears as an interlude about spilling liquor on his “Corinthian white couch” — is a hysterical reminder of how far Kelly has come.

RagePack will be released on Friday. —Jordan Zirm
