Apparently Fausto Carmona Isn't Really Fausto Carmona

Whats my name?
  • What's my name?

That Tribe pitcher who refuses to remove the hologram from the underside of his hat? The one who was really dominant for a year or two and has fallen back to maddeningly mediocrity? The one that wears No. 55?

Yeah, his name isn't Fausto Carmona, just so you know. It's apparently Roberto Hernandez Heredia.

Reports have Carmona, er, Heredia being arrested in the Dominican Republic for using a false identity.

Via ESPN reports and Hardball Talk:

Jorge Arangure of ESPN.com passes along word from reporter Yancen Pujols that Indians right-hander Fausto Carmona was arrested in the Dominican Republic and is being charged with using a false identity.

According to Pujols, police arrested Carmona—whose real name is apparently Roberto Hernandez Heredia—while he was leaving the American consulate after renewing his visa.

Worse than the name thing: Fausto, er, Roberto is allegedly 31 years old, not 28.

Time to rip the nameplate off those jerseys, Wahoo warriors.

I understand why he did this, but it's absolute BS. Since we picked up his option, he's made something like 22 million over the course of his career now? A 28 year old struggling pitcher is just having some problems, but a 31 year old pitcher doing the same thing raises very different alarms. Of course we should be getting some money back from this dork, but no, that wouldn't happen. Good thing that "Carmona" didn't find out the Indians were lying to him for the last how many years. I'm sure he'd throw a temper tantrum and demand more money immediately. Ironically, "Carmona" sitting in jail unable to play instantly improved the Indians pitching staff. Congratulations to the Indians on finally making a big splash in the offseason!
