Here’s the video from the incident a couple nights ago when Pacers’ player David West jacked Moondog in the face — playfully, we assume — but did some real damage, sending the human inside to the hospital with an eye injury.

Even from the cheap-seats view, you can tell the punch landed squarely enough that the mascot head was no protection at all.

This is just one more reminder that the lives of mascots are not all hot-dog-shooting guns and hokey dance moves. Moondog’s had a rough year. You’ll remember, he already hurt his balls. Now, his face.

    On a side note, I wonder if it would hurt more getting shot in the face by one of those t-shirt or hot dog launchers? Hmm…
