Scene was recently sold, if you didn’t hear, and the new ownership bunch, the Euclid Media Group, is based right here in Cleveland. Along with Scene publisher Chris Keating and San Antonio publisher Michael Wagner, Andrew Zelman is taking the helm of Scene and three other altweeklies — Detroit Metro Times, Orlando Weekly and the aforementioned San Antonio Current.
In this bonus podcast, host Craig Lyndall chatted with Zelman and myself about the exciting news and what it will mean to Cleveland’s weekly paper.
This article appears in Jan 1-7, 2014.

Cleveland’s weekly paper – and online site – is better placed to serve the region than any downsizing, wheezing “monolith” in the media marketplace.
More feature stories, bring back news items, more politics…just bring back the stuff that has been discontinued in recent months and replaced by endless rehashing of what’s “trending now”…food, restaurants, bands, beer news.
Music, drinking, and stuffing one’s face are wonderful and vital…but there’s more going on here and you know it.
You covered it all very well for years…then it suddenly stopped in the last year or so, and SCENE has gotten awfully thin. I don’t just mean in page size, either.
