If you haven't yet heard, celebrity comedian Joan Rivers has been hurling insults at the Cleveland kidnapping victims on national TV all week. Her latest? "They got to live rent free for more than a decade."
Nobody is really sure why Rivers is targeting Amanda Berry, Gina DeJesus, and Michelle Knight, the three women who survived 10 years of rape and torture at the hands of Ariel Castro, but the women are pretty upset, and rightfully so.
The attorneys for Berry and DeJesus have said the women are shocked and disappointed at the "hurtful" comments, which began when Rivers compared her daughter's guest room to the space where Castro held his victims. "Those women in the basement in Cleveland had more space," she said while on The Today Show earlier this week.
The women are seeking an apology from Rivers, who has already come right out and said she won't be saying sorry.
They need to "lighten up," Rivers told TMZ. "One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They're okay. I bet you within three years one of them will be on Dancing with the Stars," she said.
Too soon, Joan. Far too soon. In fact, as far as we're concerned, it will never not be too soon.
