A 51-year-old Cleveland woman who was attempting to abscond with $140.47 of merchandise from the South Euclid Walgreens was spotted by a store manager and the suspect did what any reasonable person would do when faced with the fact that the gig was up: she pooped in the store.

From the News-Herald:

In the parking lot he asked Thomas for her receipt, which she could not find.

The manager brought Thomas back into the store and told her that he was calling police.

“Thomas told him that she had to use the bathroom badly when she suddenly pulled down her pants and defecated in the front of the store,” according to the report.

That wasn’t the end, sadly. The suspect then left the store, heading toward Warrensville Center and Colony Rd., when the manager caught up with her. She then threatened to pepper spray him, told him she had AIDS and “would spit on him,” and later, when the police arrived, said she had colon cancer and bed bugs, before again pulling down her pants.

She’s been charged with theft and disorderly conduct.

  1. There are obviously some mental health issues going on here. I hope she gets the help she needs.

  2. This person is clearly mentally ill. Bravo on us for getting a laugh out of her suffering.

  3. Why is poor behavior always justified by ‘mental illness’? I think some people are just a55h*les.

  4. Im mentally ill (truly, diagnosed and on meds) and I dont go around pooping in stores.

  5. I worked at the Giant Eagle in Middlerbugh Heights and the same exact thing happened! The woman even had the same story that she had Colon Cancer and then defecated in a manager’s office and wiped feces on the floor and on a security guard!

  6. Well does she have colon cancer or aids? How about a mental illness? What if she does have colon cancer and the guy wouldn’t let her take a shit? Can’t say you wouldn’t do the same… Maybe find some bushes?

  7. June, every mental illness is different and every human experience is different. You can’t compare because you’re different people. Schizophrenia vs. Bipolar vs. Major depressive disorder vs. Borderline personality …. All vastly different

  8. @Molly, you’re getting in the way of bottom-feeders trying to entertain themselves on how much stupider other people are than themselves! Jeez, you might as well expect June to know the difference between being medicated and unmedicated.

8 people disliked a comment where someone was just “I hope she gets the help she needs.”

Welcome to the internet. Nick Bartucci is wrong, most people are a-holes.

  9. I used to work at Walgreens. She is not the first person to poop in the store. I have seen people poop all over the walls, in the aisle, waiting at the pharmacy. A man once was found naked in the bathroom floor masturbating. I’m not sure what the reasons are but Walgreens seem to bring out the worst in people.

  10. I dont know anything about mental illness, but what I do know is that when you gotta dump out, the front entrance of a walgreens seems viable to me.

  11. What I’m wondering is, who created the advertising marquee under the Walgreens sign about chicken poop? Was that photo shopped or what?

  12. Its not a mental health issue. She had to use the bathroom! She was probably freaking out about being caught as well, she may have been embarrassed as she should very well be.

  13. If you have an actual mental illness, there is no problem with that. However, if you can’t follow basic rules, such as no pooping in places where you shouldn’t be pooping, then you can either (1) take medication for that, or (2) suffer the consequences. If you “can’t help it” or whatever reason you feel entitles you to poop in public, I’m really sorry but that doesn’t excuse you. Oh, and the fact that she was shoplifting $140 in merchandise leads me to suspect that she did not in fact have a mental illness and was in reality just a thief that got caught.

  14. June. I’m surprised at you. If you are mentally ill, diagnosed and on meds, I would expect you to have a slightly higher level of awareness, especially of the fact that “mentally ill” covers a great deal of ground. This story sounds like this woman has some form of dementia combined with some form of borderline personality disorder (which can include impulsivity control.) There area also several disorders, one of which is very common in elderly people with dementia, which are manifest as a severe or complete lack of inhibitions. In fact the DSM-IV lists this particular behavior (habitually defecating in public or in inappropriate places) as a symptom – encopresis.

So, just because you’re mentally ill and don’t do this in public, doesn’t mean that it’s not a sign of mental illness, only that it’s not a symptom of *your* particular mental illness, and I’d be concerned that someone who is diagnosed with a mental illness would have so little awareness of mental illness that she would lump everyone else’s behavior in with her own.

  15. The DSM is a piece of crap which is why it’s going away. People’s diagnoses change perpetually, push the right buttons and anyone can be labeled ” crazy”. Remember glbt ppl were once seen as such.

  16. This is just her way of causing store employees to leave her alone and allow her to escape.
Not mental illness just “acting” crazy to get away with theft.

  17. If she is in the uncontrollable habit of stealing, it is a mental illness. It is called kleptomania. She may have had a bout with diarrhea. She should have stayed home.
