In the midst of this morning’s Fox 8 morning show, during a discussion of Lady Gaga’s performance at the Oscar’s last night, Kristi Capel dropped “jigaboo” into the conversation as an adjective to describe Lady Gaga’s music. Not good, ladies and gents. Wayne Dawson’s reaction is interesting. Clip below. (Fox 8 had the original YouTube video removed; we embedded a fresh one, and if that disappears, you can still see the moment here.)

Capel, in response to some heat on Twitter, did apologize later on, saying she had no idea what the word meant.

  1. O Boy lets get on the race trane and railroad her out of town OMG get over your selfs stop with all the hating she’s a nice lady! Look at yourself before you judge her!

  2. “If” is never included in apologies, and it’s certainly not copied and pasted ad nauseum on twitter. And apologies for racial slurs are never followed up with the phrase “porch monkeys”, which she did. This trash doesn’t represent Cleveland and she’s harmful to the brand. This is a business decision, and a very easy one at that. Kick her to the curb.

  3. These things always happen on Fox affiliates, too. Maybe they should brand themselves as the “Slip of the Forked Tongue Network.”

  4. Are we shocked an anchor, who is likely only an anchor because of her looks, is vapid? Seems like she is also the type to use “irregardless” and “guesstimate” regularly.

  5. Dear Kristi Capel: admitting that you’re “merely” an ignorant twit does nothing to elevate or redeem you in the eyes of this European-American reader. Just sayin’.

  6. Basic Rules: 1) Don’t use a word in conversation that you don’t know the meaning of; 2) When you are apologizing and use the words ‘if’ and ‘but’, you’re not apologizing. You’re trying to pacify the person (or people) you’ve wronged without admitting guilt.

Please parents, teach your children this lesson early to avoid them looking as stupid as this poor woman.

  7. When saw this story posted on the internet, I was puzzled why it was a story in the first place!
I had to look up the word to know that it even existed.
Interesting how sensitive our culture has become…
People create controversy out of innocent banter!

  8. “People are always looking to be offended.” Well YEAH—it tends to be the reaction when you use a racist term. Go figure.

  9. Self righteous people. Like you never spoke something and thought better of it later ? You people have a lot of free time to judge. Get a life. Move on to someone else you can JUDGE!!!!
Kick her to the curb REALLY. What a bunch of nasty people.

  10. OMG – can’t believe that none of you said something once in your life that you did not mean to say!! Give Kristi a break, you can clearly see that she really did not realize that she said something offensive. I like Fox 8 and I watch it every morning!

  11. I don’t think that she really meant anything by it. I just think that she’s kind of an idiot who misspoke.

I was amused by Wayne Dawson’s reaction. I though that he handled it well.

  12. Easy people…….I hate FOX and I hate that we now get 5 hrs of local news every morning and night…its ridiculous beyond belief…..but Kristi is cool. Whatever she meant, it WASNT racist. She’s not like that and in case you dont know, she’s mixed herself. She’s cool. Give her a break. You want to talk racism, then talk about Guiliani. But, not Kristi. Theyre a good group. I live in Cleveland and my wife watches them religiously every day. And they are a cool group.

  13. Archie Bunker said this 45 years ago on CBS and was chastised then. Even though the people on TV now may not have been born yet, the people who manage them should have a working knowledge of what is and what is not offensive. The true Fact is that people of all races are still ignorant of what offends people, and the harder reality is that they just don’t care. She was wrong.

  14. People sometimes say things they dont mean too and dont understand your only human but some people are gonna be ignorant about it and run it to the ground. .

  15. IS this girl stupid? That was the worse way to describe that performance. Lady Gaga actually was toned down compared to her usual routines and she sounded great. Network please reprimand this idiot. Her “joke” wasn’t even funny.

  16. fox is the most republician news channel out thre, check out the colors that are on every fox channel GOP red white and blue, most of the news coverage that pertains to africian americians depict us in the negative ,long drawn out story, vast coverage, let a story pertainning to some white person doing wrong come on, this , that, and its over. dont believe me watch fox on any channel do the news, u make the call

  17. Seriously, this idiot needs to be fired. She absolutely knew what she was saying. These people lend no credibility to the news or entertainment, they are a waste of time.

  18. Oh, my goodness. People are afraid to talk anymore! So an antiquated word slips out in a moment of referring to wild music and dancing going on in the background. IF someone was offended they need to pull their panties out of their crack and get on with life. This is getting really old, folks…

  19. They just hire these dumb-asses for their looks.
So you really can’t get mad if they don’t know what the hell they are saying.

  20. Some of you folks have got it all wrong, a “Jig” is a word for a dance, usually of Southern origin or of the hillbilly or black culture.

Say for example that Granny Clampett and Jed Clampett would say on the Beverly Hillbillies; “Jed, let’s dance the jig to the fiddles.”

A “Jigaboo” is another word for a Black person that was commonly used before negro, and especially in the South along with other words that I won’t repeat here.

  21. This show is really become an embarrassment to Cleveland. As a newscaster you are a public figure. The behavior and silliness on this show is ridiculous. It is a NEWS program. It is not a “talk” show where all forms of silliness are accepted. Why would you say something when you didn’t know what it means? The management of this channel needs to take a look at what is going on during this show. Is this how they want this channel represented? I have watched this show less and less. Maybe some of the down time when all of this behavior occurs could be filled by some local experts discussing some of the problems facing our country today.( as they do on more professional news programs) We have many colleges and universities here with experts on all fieldsand the Cleveland Clinic to give information about health issues. It is apparent that the newscasters on here do not have the skills or knowledge to address the issues in a meaningful way.

  22. “Basic Rules: 1) Don’t use a word in conversation that you don’t know the meaning of; 2) When you are apologizing and use the words ‘if’ and ‘but’, you’re not apologizing. You’re trying to pacify the person (or people) you’ve wronged without admitting guilt.

I’m sorry but part of apologizing is to pacify. When you dismiss an apology because it contains the word “if” or “but” you are looking for a reason to close your mind to sound judgement. If you are basing your judgement upon the idiocy you read on the internet instead of your true feelings you are doing yourself a great disservice. Trust your feelings. We are all very capable of acting as intelligent, respectable humans. Some choose not to act this way.

  23. Why is it if a black person sais a racial slur accident or not it’s ok. A white person does by full accident it’s down right despicable. Every one needs to grow up shut up and leave her alone. Take a look in the mirror cause I’m sure we all got skeletons in all our closets. Don’t use this as an excuse to make yourself look like a saint.

  24. I thought red, white and blue represented the American flag and the United States……not a political party. I even recall seeing those same colors behind Obama.

  25. She made a mistake, She said she was sorry, I think she meant to say “gibberish” and came out wrong. Get over it Forgive her. Will ar Can this Country ever heal? Forgiveness is the only way, note Hate. Uninted we stand Divided we fall.

  26. Hello! I’m an on-air personality and I use (at the very least) my voice and my words to get your attention and convey information! That’s why I use random words I don’t understand to try and make my message both clear and interesting.

    Hurrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  27. Seems to me that a word or phrase is racist only if it can be offensive to black people, or “native Americans”. What about the yellow and white people? I hear the words “Honky” and “cracker” all the time, yet nobody worries about racism there. Play it fair or don’t play it at all.

  28. Clearly, she didn’t think the word was racist.Words mean different things to different people. Someone called me a cracker one day and I just laughed at them and said “Woo, it that supposed to be offensive? Call me a potato chip, big deal!” I thought the person was calling me a cracker, like a saltine, because I was white. I didn’t know it meant “whip Cracker”, as in plantation owner. One of my black friends had to explain it to me. Some of us don’t know those terms as being bad because people in our lives did not use words like that.

  29. I’m sorry Danny Vansickle…. Google the word jigaboo. It’s not a type of music, like Honky Tonk. I’ve heard that word my whole life. and it had nothing to do with music. Try Google once in awhile, it’s a cornucopia of information.

  30. she should be fired by FOX, wait a minute FOX is a republican station, and they will honor her watch and see. NAACP were are you on this one!!!!

  31. The only thing I can say is the Lady Gaga should be insulted to be associated with the people the word is associated with. lmao

  32. I watched the clip. It doesn’t seem to me she meant it in a racist context. She probably meant that it was hard to hear her voice because on most of her pop songs the accompanying music is loud and covers it up. She is young and a lot of young people don’t know all of the nasty racist slang used back in the day. I never condone racists, but this seems to be much ado about nothing.

  33. So what !! Its just a word and I use it. Its not a racial slur unless you CHOOSE to say it is. Get off Kristi all you cry babies that only look for things to bitch about. Get a life. I agree Fox8 can get drawn out on some things + especially with the kenny Crumpton segments, but I just move on and watch something else instead of whinning. Kristi does an excellent job and has no need to apologize.

  34. Oh, my goodness. People are afraid to talk anymore! So an antiquated word slips out in a moment of referring to wild music and dancing going on in the background. IF someone was offended they need to pull their panties out of their crack and get on with life. This is getting really old, folks…Posted by Sam on 02/23/2015 at 11:19 AM

None of that happened. She was performing a medley from Sound of Music. The background was trees.

  35. it’s an old out dated negative word – it would have been best to brush it off as a mistake – but now – a whole new audience of idiots will start hurling the term around. that’s what usually happens, right?

  36. Will you people shut up.. you are all a bunch of Puss**.. Get a life. If you are going to cry every time someone says something just a little politically correct, then you have mental illness. Grow up, get real, move on, and be happy. Quit crying. If it was reversed, this wouldnt even be an issue. Double Standards.. they can call each other the “n”word and thats ok, right? Liberals are the biggest wimps.. bunch of worthless sheep.

  37. There go the Liberal’s again. Taking aim at anything to curtail our constitutional right to free and uninhibited free speech.

  38. Really people ? I’m in my 60’s…brought up during civil rights. More to the point, Kristi’s young. Listen to our younger people talk, really listen, they use a lot of words incorrectly. I’m not talking about slang. Everyday words that they use incorrectly. It’s the “new ” meanings of many words and believe me, when you try to correct them, they think you’re nuts !! Give Kristy a break, she slipped…doesn’t mean she should lose her job !

  39. I’m over 50 years old, born and raised in the South and have never heard the word jigaboo used to refer to a black person. To me jigaboo is akin to whatchamacallit or thingamajig–a funny sounding Dr. Seuss-ish word you might use to fill in for when you can’t think of the exact word you want to say. And, the fact that a person says a word but has no idea it has any kind of racial connotation, says a lot for our culture being non-racist, not the other way around. It means the word is so seldom used in a derogatory way, it has probably lost it’s original derogatory meaning (if it ever was universally meant as a racial term to begin with). Instead of screaming “racist” over a single word, maybe people should consider the context. And, for the life of me, I can’t figure out what the hangup is over the word “if” in her apology. Obviously, not everyone was offended by the word, so why would she be apologizing to those people?

  40. HAHAHAHA. It *IS* jigaboo music, and all of your politically correct caterwallering is inconsequential to the fact that the music SUCKS.

Oh…and I don’t give a flying *uck what you think of me. Put that in your pipes and smoke it.

    Get over yourselves.

  41. “It is a type of music people. Just like Honky Top music. I am not offended”

Sorry, Danny Vansickle, but it is not a type of music. There’s only one meaning of the word, jiggaboo, and it’s an offensive term that’s used to refer to black people. I didn’t know anyone even used that expression anymore. That’s something I heard when I was a kid, which was decades ago. She used the word to describe Lady Gaga’s music….although, I’m not sure why. How is Lady Gaga’s music ‘black’ music? If she truly didn’t know what the meaning of the word is, she shouldn’t have used it. Sorry people, it’s a term that’s used to be offensive to black people.

  42. It’s obvious the word she was searching for and meant to say was hullabaloo! Although she should apologize for what she did say, I don’t believe it was intentional. To all you thin-skinned people who wake up every day just looking for something or someone to be angry at – get a life and get over it!

  43. And not a darn thing will happen to her. But let it happen to a white commentator and their butts would be out the door!!!!!!

  44. I don’t think this was anything racist. I just think it was a slip of words. I have no problem with Kristi Capel. Wayne did have that look like “Not cool” tho. lol

  45. All these excuses that are being made for this girl might fly for “civilians”. But she is a public figure, more importantly, she is a news anchor. She should know what is proper and what is not. She is obviously sitting there more for her looks than her journalistic abilities. She needs to be reprimanded to some extent. People have lost their jobs for less than that. Jimmy the Greek lost his job for stating a fact. And they slammed him. She says Jigaboo and the black guy sitting next to her looked like he swallowed his tongue. She gives a half hearted “apology” and everything is ok. People DO say things they don’t mean every day, but everybody is not a news anchor. When you have a responsibility like that you are supposed to have some sense of decorum and know what the hell you’re talking about before you go rattling your pretty little head.

  46. Alright, lets give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that somehow in (I assume) 25+ years of living in this country the offensive background of the word “jigaboo” eluded her, or that she did have some idea of the meaning, and had a slip of the tongue. There’s really no way for us to definitively know that this was anything but somebody being a verbal klutz. Don’t fire her, don’t suspend her-but somebody ought to be fined.

When you’re in a role like that on a major network’s news program, you have a responsibility, and I think all parties involved will be better off if nobody can make the argument that that slur wasn’t dropped without reprimand.

  47. She apologized. Let’s get over it. Isn’t there more important things going on in the world? I can’t even fathom this incident being so blown out of proportion. I am white and I would bet my black friends would not spend more that one second being offended if at all. My church today and yesterday are struggling to feed more and more kids locally and in Africa, black and white. Where are our priorities and why can’t we use our energies to make a difference rather than creating a useless one?

  48. I’m white and I just had to look up the word because I have never heard it and didn’t know what it meant. Maybe, just maybe, she didn’t either.

  49. Most children are taught by the age of 4 not to use a word if they don’t know what it means and actual professional journalists never use a work on air if they aren’t sure of it.

But then, of course, this is Fox News, where ignorance is not only expected, it’s demanded.

  50. OMG get over it people.. its ok for them to go around calling each other N.. but GOD forbid someone says a word that is APPARENTLY OWNED.. by the blacks… GET LIVES and better get get REAL and become a decent member of society instead of thugs and sucking off this country….

  51. first, i didnt watch the video
second, its kinda clear just from reading the article she is an idiot
third, i think she did know what it meant and she didnt apologize she put it on the people offended
fourth, i honestly dont give a dog turd because things like this will continue to happen regardless of how outraged people get so if you think she is losing her job think again chances are the majority of her viewers found what she said funny

  52. I don’t think she did it to be deliberately racist, but if you’re addressing an audience in any capacity you need to be aware of the words coming out of your mouth. But as far as not knowing of the word, where is she living, under a rock?

  53. She knew EXACTLY what that word meant, that’s why she used it, and that’s why she started laughing as soon as she said it.

  54. If you don’t know what a word means then don’t use it…simple as that. And for those of you defending her because “everybody makes mistakes”; true everyone does make mistakes, but not all of us are on the news and people in the public eye should be held to a higher standard of behavior.

  55. When do we get over this and move on? There are a lot of words more offensive. In my generation growing up we werent raised to hear those words so I had no idea they were bad…maybe she was raised like that too. I never used those words at all and my kids who are now in their 20’s and 30’s dont use them although they are used more than they were when I grew up so I am sure they have heard them.

  56. many years ago, I called a friend a punk, I thought it meant young men who ran the streets, and he did that, he was always out doing stuff. However, I found out that calling a young black man a punk was saying he was gay, I had no idea. So don’t so quick to jump. I am sure you are not perfect.

  57. but its ok for the blacks to produce movies like “White Men Can’t Jump” or the latest series “Blackish”?

  58. Yes, we’ve all said something we regretted later. But, we aren’t on TV reporting the news. She cannot afford to make that kind of error! I would have thought that’s something she learned in college.

  59. Well, Chel, I’m 53 years old and I’m from Texas and I’ve heard that word used in reference to black people my whole life. Just because you never heard it, doesn’t mean it’s not so.

  60. THE TRUTH IS THE TRUTH,,, Lady Gaga’s SINGING AND HERSELF OFFENDS ME SO IS SHE GOING TO STOP SINGING AND CHANGE HER LOOKS. WELL NO SHE ISN’T SO FORGET IT AND MOVE ON.KRISTI STATED SHE WAS SORRY.

  61. You don’t get to apologize “if” you did something. If you’re going to apologize — if you’re truly regretful — you will own up to your actions and be forthright and honest. Unless Ms. Capel has a history of similar comments, this is an embarrassing and hurtful mistake that can be remedied — but it requires that she behave now like someone who viewers and a community can trust. Her “if/then” apology is not an acceptable example to set.

  62. well if you look at her pictures she use to be a beauty queen now she just looks like a commercial for hohos since it looks like she has eaten her share of them

  63. I’m not a fan of firing people because they say “wrong” words. I am a fan of “firing” networks for systematic and intentional misrepresentation of facts. Faux Snooze should lose its broadcasting license. Not because of dumb newsreaders saying racially offensive words, but because it does everything in its collective power to misinform the American people and promote hatred and fear for profit.

  64. Fox8 sucks ass as well as kristi capel and the rest of the reporters there… Their a joke just like their news is a joke ! And for the ppl that say give her a break are as dumb as she is ! Don’t hate the player peeps hate the game and fox8 is a Joke and always will be as long as they have reporters like her and the rest of them there ! Dick Goddard needs to retire and save what integrity he has left because their sucking it out of him and the news station by the reporter’s they have now like kristi capel …

  65. Oh yes, make sure you “educate” your children on these words. Make sure they know what they are and what they mean, that way we can keep making sure some one is always offended. What a lousy thing to do, maybe if we let these words die a natural death, not be OFFENDED so quickly and go into a long rhetoric about the word, one of these days the word racism might be gone.

  66. Down in Dayton, the speedbumps were called at one time, jigabumps, and not because we were the west side because you jiggled when you went across them

  67. @Artax: I’m having trouble turning up where she’s used the phrase “porch monkeys”. Can you source? Not denying out of hand, just can’t find anything about it.

  68. I have to say that everyone is entitled to their own opinion. I had no idea it was a word. I’m sure I’m not the only one. It doesn’t make a person “dumb”, “ignorant”, or “stupid”. People are so quick to judge anymore. It’s sad, really.

  69. No Bill Moss Jungle Bunny is not ok. No more if I say Cracker and I don’t mean saltines or Honky not to mean blow your horn. These words are wrong and should never be used. We are better people.

  70. What do you mean IF you offended? How about you own up to your ignorance in a more responsible, straight-forward way? If you don’t know the meaning of a term DON’T USE IT. Or better yet, tell us what you perceived this word to mean when you used it to describe another person’s music. Surely you thought the word had a meaning – so what was it?

  71. Commenters are hilarious. Most of you can barely spell, let alone argue a point. The fact of the matter is this shit will be forgotten by tomorrow and you all will have some other non-news to get outraged about for an afternoon.

  72. I worked with Kristi for a few years a decade ago and I know for a fact she’s not a racist. As to why she used that word…I can’t say. If she says she didn’t know the meaning, I believe her. Kristi is a good person with a great heart.

  73. We have all said something we wish we could take back. Its live TV and you have to think quick to keep things moving, you can tell she was trying to hurry up with trying to get her point across and she said something she didn’t mean, end of story. Just because she’s on TV she is getting bashed. She apologized and I know she feels absolutely terrible with all the negative comments she’s getting. She is a good person just like everyone else. Give her a break. Life goes on!

  74. Having watched the show nearly every day since moving here last year, I can say with 99.999% confidence Kristi honestly had no clue what she did. I make up words all the time. Plus she is pretty young & it really wouldn’t be surprising that she had never heard it. If you think about it, that’s really a good thing, isn’t it? That would mean the word hasn’t been said around her…by extrapolation, the word has fallen out of use. And THAT is a good thing!

  75. Would have liked to see clip, but it has been removed. I wanted to see for myself what all the hubbub was about.

  76. If I was her boss, I wouldn’t be angry so much that she said it as I would for be for her not know what it meant or the connotation. How she put the word together to describe Gaga’s performance if she didn’t know what meant is bizarre. How does gig a boo describe whatever action/ thing/ person, if yo don’t know what it means. The 3 syllables are meaningless if you don’t know or ever heard of the word. I so sick of
    racist accusations.
The word is way over used and usually inaccurate.
Most people that use it are racist in themselves. Most racist terms are not profanities anyway.

  77. Actually I prefer ‘nig-nogs’ to ‘jigaboo’, I used to use that for blacks, but haven’t for years. Her performance was outstanding btw, not black at all at the Oscars, but at the tribute for
Stevie Wonder, well, with being so good I saved it to my favorites (I Wish) it was far more ‘black’ than Sound of Music, which isn’t at all.

  78. She also provided the worst apology by using the old “I apologize if I offended you” line. Just apologize, don’t apologize with stipulations.

And the “thank you for watching” is a little condescending.

  79. She spells her name Kristi with an “i” on purpose. I TOTALLY believe she’s that dumb. I TOTALLY believe that someone maybe even dropped it into casual conversation to get her to say it later because they knew how dumb she was. I think she said it because it sounded funny like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious and she LOVES that song so why not! By all means get rid of her because either she’s racist or waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too stupid to hold down that job. I’m just saying, my vote is for stupid.

  80. While certainly it was a stupid nonsensical comment, does every person who utters such a thing deserve to be fired from their job? Where is the outrage and move to fire President Obama after he made several racist remarks about “non residents from Mexico”

During the speech the president referred to illegals as “workers who pick our fruit and make our beds.”
Obama went on to discuss a young lady who was sent into America to live with her grandmother. According to the president, her dad was in landscaping and her mom cleaned houses. In other words, illegals are all fruit pickers, maids, or landscapers.

Basically, Obama used nearly every single stereotype you can think of, yet there’s no liberal outrage demanding the president apologize or be removed from office ……..why does he get a free ride on his comments ?

  81. After she said it I am sure a lot of people went to grab the dictionary to see what it means. I am 64 and did not know the meaning. I’ll bet a lot of you complaining did not know either. She apologized for not knowing it was such a bad word. Can we move on now or don’t you have something better to do than to beat her up all day for it ?

  82. It was wrong and I agree why use a word u have no idea the true meaning. I know she feels horrible, & this too shall pass. Sticks and stones May break my bones but names will never hurt/break me. We as s people, nation need to
Be concerned that there are more African American men in US prisons
then there were people in slavery. We the people that watch the news shows we need to attempt to get to these The young folks, the ignorant folks , the bullies to pull up your pants, girls cover up your private parts better, believe in yourself and stop being jealous of others (bulling is all about jealously) . Talk about it get it off your chest and let’s more to the next order of business. I’m 57 years old and it hurts heart that the leaders of the future r so lost, let’s make a different that way instead of always wanting to hang people out to dry for a simple moment of stupidity. She said it public apologize on the show and perhaps make her do a essay on the world and its origin that way she won’t ever forget it lol. 😏 got to keep it moving

  83. She didn’t know the meaning behind it? She just coincidentally put together those letters? No reputable journalist uses words on air or in a publication that have no meaning, or that the journalist does not know. They are trained wordsmiths–language is supposedly their bread and butter. Ah, but then, we must remember this is FOX–all the rules of intelligence, quality, responsibility and truth are suspended in favor of ratings.

  84. A few years ago, in a segment about playing a musical instrument, Wayne said the only instrument Kenny could play is the skin flute. You can find it on youtube by searching wayne dawson skin flute. I really think they just talk, and don’t realize what they are saying.

  85. i stopped watching fox 8 because of the way she and wayne behave. they’re both unprofessional and so obnoxious. i’m surprised it took her this long to drop something this inappropriate. can they fire her now? PLEASE!

  86. oh geez people…have we really evolved into such pansies!? this whole politically correct thing has gone to far. while I certainly believe the use of the word jigaboo (and others) is inappropriate, especially for those in the public eye…I find it hard pressed to believe that those of you who are ‘outraged’ have never used some sort of derogatory word in multiple conversations, throughout your life. and will again. difference is, only the person you are talking to will be aware of your use of vocabulary…not an entire city. guilty people should not judge. she should be reprimanded and asked to apologize on camera…not lose her job.

  87. Wow, everyone is missing the bigger picture(s). 1) She said, “you can really hear her voice WITH (she did not say WITHOUT) that jiggaboo music she does”, and then, repeats it. He should have slapped the crap out of her, especially being a black man. and
    2) how can she be on Fox (Faux) News? She’s a brunette.

  88. I love these non-apologies “….. IF I offended you.” When you have been offensive, say “I apologize with all my heart and it will never happen again.” Some people don’t feel the ned to take responsibility for their actions/words.

  89. To be fair to Miss Capel, the last recorded use of the word was in Spike Lee’s movie School Daze. Her station on the other hand should have an obligation to hire people who know the English language or at least know enough to avoid words they don’t understand. I’d put this slip up there with the announcer who said on-air he’d like to “canoodle” with female colleague. Not harassment, just ignorance in the true sense of the word. Same here. Not racist. Have a chuckle. Move on.

  90. I cannot stand channel 8 news, they tell crap that happened last week & repeat it 7 times in one broadcast. Krist is about as dumb as they come, she can’t talk, she had to read. Kick her butt off the news!

  91. Ya’ll need to chill out! Everyone is racist to some degree. blacks probably are the most racist pepole in our country. They hate white people, and are constantly making ignorant remarks Towards Caucasians. if you don’t like being called racial slurs then pull your pants up and speak like an educated person that you are.if you walk around with your ass hanging out speaking Ebonics then the name fits. Just like if you are ignorant cussing up a storm collecting welfare white person I will call you white trash. We are all the same everyone needs to stop acting so self righteous and offended.

  92. I forgot to mention in my previous post that she was singing songs from “The Sound of Music”. Why did this dipstick need the need to elaborate instead of to compliment Gaga on her performance and focus instead on her stage act? BULL that she didn’t know what it meant and you idiots that keep saying, “oh she’s nice, she made a mistake, my wife watching it every morning”? Because you all personally know her so well.

  93. I think this whole thread makes the situation pretty clear and simple, the people who say racist things to other people are acting like she didn’t do anything wrong and the people who don’t say racist things to other people are acting like she said something wrong.

Let me explain something to you racist people who like the former mayer of newyork don’t seem to have any clue about what racism is. I have said things that I wish I haven’t said before, I have called people assholes and wish that I had not done so, but I have never called anybody a white asshole, or a yellow asshole etc…. do you racist see the difference now, I might even be an asshole my self but I’m not a racist asshole…..are you capable of distinguishing between the two….. you fucking assholes

  94. Goofballs. Has the winter weather got you down? It’s a disorder…you can deal with it in other ways than scapegoating Capel, you silly goats (oops, I hope I didn’t offend a senior citizen…golly, we all know how sweet they all are).

  95. ” I didn’t know it was a word or its meaning so I thought right here would be a great place to insert it”. They throw it around so much at Fox she thought it was acceptable on the air. However I have been taught to love my brother/sister and it wouldn’t be the first or last time Fox belittles my race…..and theirs.

  96. Gosh get over it everyone. I actually didn’t know what the word meant. And I am 53 yrs old. I just googled it to find out. Every dam radio station disc jockey and every TV personality weather it be news or a TV show has used words they shouldn’t of. Life goes on!!!! I didn’t watch the grammys last night But I would of turned the channel when that JIGIBOO came on can’t stand her.

  97. I am betting that everyone on this thread that says “it’s no big deal” are all white. Just saying.

  98. Gaga’s performance showed the Lady has REAL talent, unlike a stupid news anchor who can’t put two words together without a script.

  99. IF U ARE NON AFRICAN AMERICAN…… STOP RESPONDING…… JIGABOO IS A TERM SIMILAR TO NIGGER. IT WAS USED TO DESCRIBE BLACK PEOPLE IN A DIRTY, NEGATIVE WAY……… SHE HEARD IT BEFORE BECASUE AMERICA HAS USED IT SO MUCH THAT IT WAS IN HER MIND……. APOLOGIES ARE OK…… BUT THE FACT THAT PEOPLE SAID SHE SLIPPED IT WAS A MISTAKE IS IGNORANT…….HER AND HER HUBBY PROBABLY SIT AROUND MAKING NEGATIVE COMMENTS ABOUT WAYNE DAWSON……. AND THE OTHER BLACK REPORTERS…… AS MY DAD USE TO SAY…. WHATEVER IS ON YOUR HEART, THE MOUTH WILL SPEAK….

  100. all of you HATERS just shut up this is why there is so much hate out there NO ONE IS WILLING TO FORGIVE. Kristy i AM SURE MEANT NOTHING RACIST have you looked at who she works with!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  101. I haven’t heard this obnoxious word since I was a child (I’m a 60+ native Clevelander)–did this ditz see it on her teleprompter? How else would she come across it and think it was an acceptable word? Unbelievable!

  102. GET OVER IT !! Kristie is not the type of person who disrespect ANYONE She didnt know it was racist clearly but of course once again a big deal is made out of nothing ughhhh grow up damn stop bitching all the time sick of it

  103. If you are really that stupid you should not be on the air, and need to go back to school and take some vocabulary lessons.

  104. Hilarious. Clearly she thought “jigaboo” somehow meant the same thing as “hullabaloo” or something. It’s obvious she was referring to the noise. But the expression on her co-anchor’s face was just pure comedy gold. That poor man! 😀 So that should be a lesson to all of us, don’t use a word if you’re not sure what it means!

  105. “Sorry if I offended you” isn’t an apology. It places the “blame” on the person who was “offended” not on the person who actually did the offensive thing. That’s why her apology is so horrible. She should just apologize for using a racist word.

And, as an on-air media personality she should have the common sense not to use words that she doesn’t know the meaning of. It makes her and her entire show look stupid.

  106. This is what happens when news stations hire female newscasters based on their looks alone. So many of them can’t even form an understandable sentence, much less be aware of the historical and cultural meaning of a term like the one she used.

  107. I was born and raised in Cleveland. I must tell you this really hit me on a soft spot. I remember being a 10 year old kid riding my 10 speed bike with a couple of friends through Murray Hill and being chased by white adults and other children throwing rocks at us and calling us 4 the N-word! We were just riding our bikes through the city we lived in, not bothering anyone or anything just peddling through. No, it was not the only event that stuck with me that had a racial affront in my hometown or surrounding areas. I rarely comeback to Cleveland maybe every couple of years or so…it is unfortunate my 81 year old mother is still there. Through my travels throughout this country both coasts, south, midwest, etc…I have never had more racial issues than I have had in my own hometown. I’d like to say Cleveland is better than that…but that just would not be true…!

  108. Her co-anchor was gracious. I can’t imagine what he was thinking though. Racial slur then slam for Lady Gaga. I knew she had a gorgeous voice and thought that she’d probably go the route of other great singers and move from pop music into Broadway maybe. She’s very talented.

  109. OHIO is by far the WORST state in the union. Corn-fed idiots that get way too many electoral votes. Made obvious by the common response: “Haven’t you ever said a bad word? Give her a break.” Like the newscaster doesn’t bear a higher responsibility than the normal Joe Blowhard. Because they all see themselves as the same. The same = idiots.

  110. I do not believe she said it with any malice intent, I do believe she said it out of ignorance. Do I think she is racist. No… But I DO believe she is not the smartest apple on the tree… especially having roots in North Carolina… I also believe that yes she knew it was a word, especially because she has roots in North Carolina. I believe she heard it as a youngster, and this was a moment that in her mind, she thought the word was appropriate, without fully knowing its meaning. She does owe ALL OF FOX 8 Viewers (regardless of race) a SINCERE apology… Kudos to Wayne Dawson – and the rest of Fox 8 staff for keeping their cool… but Come On Kristi… please don’t treat us like we are idiots. You made a mistake, own up to it and move on! This story has been covered nationally, including Billboard, NY daily news and I believe it is now Internationally reported as well on BBC…. you cannot go anywhere to hide from this comment, so please own up to it, and offer a sincere apology. Nobody is perfect!

  111. She should of never apologized. Nothing wrong with what she said. People need to quit apologizing for things they actually mean. Again, no apology needed.
so tired of all this “racist” crap.

  112. Sondra Merritt not everyone is a racist I was born in the early 50’s and truly didn’t know how black people were treated and I believe it was because my mother had black friends she worked with and we visited had dinner with them and they did the same I sat at the counter with a black lady in the 60’s and there were people telling me not too why you ask? because she was there and being 12 yrs old I still didn’t know they were any different then anyone else except the color of their skin and is that a reason to treat people different? NO it is not! I am thankful for my mother who taught us without saying anything but by her actions all people are equal and I did the same for my boys guess your’s where different and taught you something else Fox News needs to leave the air and never return for their views, one sided view in just about everything and I stopped watching Fox a long long time ago and unfairness in most things and that newscaster needs to be fired racial slurs should not be used by anyone because we are all Americans now and the past needs to be respected and learned from not to be repeated now or ever always treat others as you would like to be treated white, black, yellow, brown, pink, or gray no one should use words to offend others

  113. So tired of the stupid Fox 8 morning show that we have gone over to channel 19. These anchors on 8 are uninformed, uneducated, rude, unprofessional and down right ignorant. Kristi is just the icing on the Fox 8 cake, she talks over guests, interrupts guests, uses poor diction when speaking. Too much trying to be cute and not enough knowledge of the anchor position and how the news should be presented. Shame on you, we watch 19 now. Think before you open your mouth. Know what you are talking about.

  114. So now we can just make up words and attach a racist meaning behind it….This is silly people. Focus on positive things.

  115. If you really want to start tackling racism start by cleaning up your own backyard. Crime reports DO NOT need to include the criminals race. Age & sex should be enough unless they are not in custody. All cities DO NOT need a listing of races & percentages attached to the city. How about just schools, cost of housing, employment rates. There is so much being made over black & white issues that racism will never end. Maybe take some lessons on how Canadians report things. We don’t give a dam about your skin colour. We do give a dam about how you act.

  116. what planet she from she didnt know the meaning of the word or what she thinks just bcuz she think she is cute it would be funny hell no bet they tell all kind of racsist jokes at that station when the cameras off idiots

  117. jig·a·boo
    ˈjiɡəˌbo͞o/
    noun NORTH AMERICAN informal offensive
    noun: jigaboo; plural noun: jigaboos
    a black person.
    Origin;
early 20th century: related to slang jig (in the same sense); compare with the pair bug, bugaboo.

    She was only informally offensive…..

  118. He Bill Moss all 500 of those offensive names were given to the minority by the majority and that is why it is wrong. She made a mistake by thinking that jigaboo was a dance..

  119. What’s the big freakin deal. It’s a word. If people want to take it racist then they need to get out of the US. There is more going on in the world then some stupid word.

  120. Christi,,,REALLY !!!! You grew up in the South, and in a family that was into T.V. broadcasting. You are well educated and have college degrees. You didn’t know it was a word???? Sorry, just don’t believe you. Mainly because you used it perfectly, in a racist text……..

  121. She said the “J” word and not the “N” word. OK America move on their is NOTHING to see here.

  122. You would have to live your life under a rock, to not know what the word Jigaboo means. People don’t look to be offended, I don’t want to see her off the air but at the same time personal feelings and views should spill over into your professional life especially when you are in the eye of the public. Channel 8 should make her publicly apologize, since some were publicly offended.

  123. She is ignorant. Sounds and looks ignorant. So you say what you mean then use that same word to explain what you said you didn’t mean. No, she knew exactly what she was saying and if she would have gotten an okay she would have stuck with it. She didn’t accidentally do anything. It’s wrong all wrong. Message to ‘people who are not black’ stop using words that you think relate to the person of color that you are talking to, it’s disrespectful 1, and 2 makes you look as ignorant as you sound. How the hell can lady GaGa music be defined as jigaboo. HELLO that word is NOT an adjective it can not be used to describe something. Oh and lady GaGa is also trained straight out of Juilliard… Everyone knows that. So I would assume that she better sound like that. But no her style of music and ‘different ness’ defines her talent as a whole, give me a break.

  124. that is funny, we called blacks jibaboos before we called them iggers
Taka Hike on 02/23/2015 at 11:22 AM

WE did not. God please do yourself a favor and go and demand your parents money back for any schooling you might have cost them. For a matter, Jiggaboo was a term a lot of people my parents age (80’s) used instead of the N word because it was so negative. But then that evolved into an insult after time.

  125. she is very ditsy it was just a matter of time before she said something stupid.Dont use words that you not sure of meaning….english 101.Fire her

  126. It’s funny that she claims to not know what the term means, her use of the term seems like she was using it to describe Lady Ga Ga’s “usual style” of music. She may not have understood that the term she was using was a typically “racist” term, but she seemed to have some understanding of it. Also, as a media figure she is responsible to know what terms mean before she uses in front of her audience. Is it offensive? Well, yes, should she be crucified for it, probably not.

  127. what a dumb biotch lol she must NOT have known what it meant or she wouldn’t have looked right into a BLACK mans eyes when she said it!! LMAO sorry, but what an idiot!! i’d be curious to hear what kind of crap music she listens to!!

  128. Most 20 and 30 somethings have no knowledge of the old racial terms thanks to Political Correctness policing of literature in schools. This was an innocent ignorant mistake. I would expect those who call for her to be fired to call for the removal of offensive racial words in the Rap music young people listen to everyday.

  129. Kristi Hula is an excellent example to everyone she knows and to all of her viewers. Her life and her achievements speak way louder than one error made on her show. I sure hope that everyone watching realizes that we all make errors. She did not even know what the word meant. She apologized and it is done. She is a fantastic role model to young kids, especially those from her high school and to her viewing audience, an excellent mother and wife, and a women that loves God and people with all her heart. If you know anything about this women you know she would never be offensive to anyone. I love watching her show and I love the fun and craziness of the show. She is a asset to the community and to her station. Stay strong and be yourself Kristi. The hand of God is upon you and your family.!!!!! WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!!! JLC

  130. She thinks she is so funny. She knew what she was saying. Dont like her or stephanie Schafer are both so fake. and that is why I dont watch the new in the morning on that channel.

  131. Apparently there a lot of nigggers commenting on this story. where was the outrage when Wayne Dawson said Kenny played the skin flute?

  132. Her co-host apparently smirked at it because he probably knew she just used a word she didnt know the meaning of. Seriously would she use that word talking to a black man? I think not!

  133. The term Cracker was originally used for Florida Cowboy’s or cattlemen. They didn’t think of it as a slur.

  134. It’s another case of a news anchor talking without thinking first! There’s too much mindless chatter on the news! They say the most ridiculous and sometimes offensive things without thinking! There are times when they use words that aren’t even words! Bad example for our children! We don’t need “cute” commentary! This is the NEWS!!

  135. How can you be sorry if you laughed afterwards? There are so many other words to describe Lady Gaga’s dress and her performance. For pete’s sake your a anchor on live t.v. ! What a fool.

  136. She knew exactly what the word meant and used it in reference to Black/HipHop music. Her ignorance was that she thought it was okay and used it rather freely…which I am sure she has many more in her repertoire. And if she is so dumb to use a racist term then she should not be on the airwaves…even Fox! And really people…white people stop trying to minimize that it is no big deal…”people are so sensitive” …it IS a big deal and it needs to end.

  137. I truly think she meant to say “chick-a-baw” like an onomatopoeic representation of the loud synth beats that are normally behind Gaga’s voice (which make it hard to make out)

if she had sincerely said that word straight to that guy’s face I would totally be on board with firing her instantly, and it’s very very unlikely that she’d never heard it before, but in context it really does sound like she had no idea.

  138. n you say “I’m sorry if I offended anyone”, you’re not apologizing for what you said. And David Gwinn, you may hear “honky” and “cracker”, but you don’t hear them on a legitimate news show (although Fox should be considered more entertainment and comedy than news).

  139. I don’t know what that word means either (maybe it is only used in the U.S.? I am in Canada)-and if it is racial or as upsetting as the previous comments seem to dictate then it is totally unacceptable on any level -wash your mouth out with some soap -no excuses – why could this anchor not have said that Lady Gaga’s performance was fantastic – because it was –

  140. I would think that a supposedly intelligent grown woman would never utter such a hurtful and offensive word! Kristi is not that young and I can’t believe she didn’t know what it meant! I believe it is a word she comfortably uses and it slipped out of her mouth. So don’t insult my intelligence and say you didn’t know what it meant. That’s bull!

  141. Look at all the jiggaboos getting upset. “If” is included in her apology because she didn’t offend everyone. Just you sensitive cry babies.

  142. She wasn’t even aware that it was a word. She thought she made it up. It IS a stupid word that most people don’t even know exist. Some people have said “If you don’t know the meaning of a word then don’t use it” She didn’t know it was a word. Everyone is looking for an excuse to be mad. She shouldn’t be fired and this shouldn’t even be news.

  143. OMG! That word hasn’t been in our vocabulary for fifty years. So how did she just “happen” to come up with it? They must use the word at home, because she said it so easy. If she does not have a real command of vocabulary, she has no business being in the spotlight. This was a slip of the tongue, not a mistake. Imus was let go for his remarks – she should be moved to behind the camera. Sad.

  144. Boo freaking who!!! It’s life get over it everybody makes mistakes and nobody is perfect! You people Obviously drank your haterade get a life and stop thinking everyone is racist! Damn sure your not going to get a pity party from me!

  145. If you listened to what she said, she was referring how she never new that Lady Gaga could sing so well because of all the crap and weird stuff she does plus all the tattoos everywhere and your wild get ups ( do we remember the meat dress). She didn’t even use it as a racist comment she just misused it period. I just watched SNL with Richard Pryor the other night – did you see the sketch where they traded racial slurs at each other on a job interview – that is okay?? but an innocent slip of the tongue isn’t. Get off your high horses people she made a mistake. Those without sin may cast stones!!

  146. Kristi, u ignorant slut! How can someone this stupid get hired to be on TV? It’s a new low, even for Fox!

  147. Never knew it was a word myself. Never even had heard it until just now when it became publicized with the video. Probably due to my age late 40’s and where i grew up which is mostly a caucasian community.

Then having to log-in to this system…I’m from PA and the site is forcing me to pick someplace in Ohio when I register lol..

  148. If you’re going to apologize– just because–, at least try to make it sincere!

“I didn’t know the meaning behind it” (Lie). You heard it before and you’re fully aware of the people it’s directed toward, hence, you were fully aware of its meaning!

The notorious “Freudian slip”. Says a lot about one’s character !!!!

  149. Are you kidding me?!? The last time I heard this word was probably before she was even born. She has no idea what she is saying. My kids didn’t know what the word meant either. So does that mean if one of them says the word at school goofing around that they’re racist? Grow some skin, people! Those of you who are offended will always be offended because you want to be. You want to be a victim because that means that you’re not accountable for your own actions. We are all human and imperfect. Get over it. Hang in there, Kristi!

  150. The word “jigaboo” is the white gentleman’s term for “nigger”. It was very common in the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s as a way for white people to kick African-Americans to the curb for simply being black – far less deserving than Kristi Capel’s supposedly innocent use of a word in perfect context while claiming she didn’t know it was a word. She is just the latest in a long line of privilege white people who momentarily lost track of which stage he/she was on and used language intended for all-white settings.

  151. Wow wonder how that word came into her vocabulary? Such a strange thing to say. Guess she figured she would get away with it. Why would you say a word you say you don’t know the meaning of on TV?

  152. Certainly it was a stupid thing to say but I really don’t think that she knowingly meant it in a disparaging way; I think that she just misspoke.

Context matters, people, and she did not say it in the context of using it as a racist label.

I cannot say what gave rise to her use of the term–and quite frankly, neither can any of you who seem certain that you somehow know anyway. you don’t and cannot.

Obviously, someone took her aside and explained to her what she said and she has apologized for it. It should end there.

A lot of politicians have said much more hurtful and disparaging things and have managed to get a pass when they actually meant what they said. I don’t think that she meant to be either hurtful or disparaging.

  153. I lived in the south as a child and this is the first time I have heard this word in probably 30 years. as I recall, it’s usage is very specific and I never heard it used in any other context except as a racial pejorative. I don’t buy the “I didn’t even know it was a word” excuse. As someone paid to talk, why would you EVER use a word the meaning of which you are unaware? Sorry lady, but you know damn well what the word means. The mouth is a window on the heart.

  154. I’m an African American and I went to college with Kristi. She is an incredible nice person and I believe 100% that she didn’t know what she was saying offensive. I had to look it up to see what it meant myself. She’s in spot light where your mistakes are there for everyone to see. I wish her and her family the best.

  155. If she was so wrong, than so are all of you with your stupid comments. Especially the ones who are swearing at her. You people need to get a life.

  156. 1. OJ Simpson; 2. Tiger Woods; 3. Barack Obama/Oprah’s special edition “Presidential Nubian” Ken Doll. That’s three strikes, meaning all the hypersensitivity about “nigger” and words like it is buried with plenty of other twentieth century atrocities. Anyone who, after all this time, is going to pretend to be offended by a word like “jigaboo,” (which they brought upon themselves,) must prefer wearing his panties in a bunched fashion. They could raise the intellectual requirements for the job of Morning Host, but then niether one of them would be working on that silly little program.

  157. Yawn… Get lifes people. We have all made mistakes. Are you over it yet? Then mayne you need to look inot your OWN life.

  158. When you said Jigaboo what was the definition in your context? In fairness, she should be not be attacked for our definition. What did her nonsense word intend to convey? Did she mean ill-timed or grandiose? As a journalist she has an obligation to give the viewers information relative. Say what you mean? A professional should not be allowed to create her own language. So race aside she is irresponsible or lying. I don’t want my doctor, pastor, or accountant speaking gibberishm

  159. If people are “too damn ignorant of what offends people”, it’s because “people” are too easily offended. In this day and age anything can offend anyone at anytime. I hope I haven’t offended anyone by saying that. Bet I did.

  160. Look over the “miss step” in wording. She correctly pointed out that LADY GAGA’s presentation of the Rogers and Hammerstein music, from SOUND OF MUSIC, was suberbly done. Please do not mire an excellant performance by the LADY with trivial complaints. DON THOMPSON

  161. She used the word in reference to Lady Gaga’s “normal” music. Her band is fully integrated, as are her dancers. So yes, this lying anchor knew exactly what she was talking about.

  162. Channel 8 pulls the clip off of You Tube? Looks like another Act Like Nothing’s Wrong move. When Tony Rizzo pleaded out to assaulting his wife a couple of years back, his Sunday night slot went untouched(as did his WKNR morning show). Rizzo and Kapel are hyped as “fun” and
‘different”, which leads station management to egg them on to dumber, goofier heights. Advertisers apparently have no problem with their acts. Abused women and minorities hearing a long-time slur(I don’t believe she didn’t know what it meant)may have a different take.

  163. She seems like quite the hopeless cunt, doesn’t she?

Wait a second…I was just blabbering there… is “cunt” even a word? I’m not sure! 😉

  164. Remember when the FOX news affiliate edited footage of black protesters to make it appear that they were saying “Kill a cop!”, when in actuality they were saying “No more killer cops” I find things like that way more problematic. Good day to all.

  165. As a Brother, I gotta say… wasn’t Lady Gaga singing the LEAST “jigaboo music” at the Oscars? I’m from a predominately African-American family… Rodgers & Hammerstein’s The Sound Of Music is the LEAST “jigaboo” thing I’ve heard.
And she says “jigaboo” on LIVE TELEVISION… in front of Wayne Dawson?! ARE YOU SERIOUS?!

And she claimed on her Twitter that she “didn’t know the meaning” of the word. I ALMOST believed her.

    ALMOST.

The station I grew up with, watching with my father (#RIP) all those years, is DEAD. With the exception of Wayne Dawson, John Rinaldi, “Big Chuck” Schodowski, André Bernier, John Telich, Tony Russo, and Dick Goddard (ALL of them are CLASS ACTS), whatever little respect I had left for the remaining personalities at WJW is GONE now.

  166. If you don’t know what the meaning of something you say….you probably shouldn’t say it.
Sooooo will this be on the show tomorrow with the reader comments??????

  167. You can tell by her hand gestures she didn’t understand the word she was using, she meant like hooplah…. she’s a good person, I’ve been watching her on my local Cleveland station for years… this is much ado about nothing, she misspoke.

  168. Kristi and Wayne have a fantastic morning show, she just slipped up, get over it. All you asshole who want her fired should look at yourself. Kristi is a sweet girl and is a joy to watch every morning, she doesn’t have a racist bone in her body. Hang in there Kristi we Love You. And all you haters go fuck yourself!! Lou D’Amico

  169. It’s funny how white people now a days feel that black people should “just get over it” when they use a word that used in a derogatory fashion towards our relatives during and after slavery. Just because you got over the fact that your relatives owned slaves and treated us like dirt doesn’t mean we should get over it.

  170. I think it is funny when they bring out the best of themselves …White people get upset because black people start laughing and say “see there it is !”

  171. Hello???? She meant Bugaboo!!!!! She was referringto the story and the hype or whatever and she meant bugaboo, good lord people, as if no one ever mad ea mistake in theri life. Look at mine in this sentence….lol

  172. Let’s say she didn’t know whatthe word she used means and meant to say bugaboo, and all of you commenting on her being a racist is in fact the racist because all of you picked up on the word and are now battling in the comment section over racism. lol

  173. Do you honestly think she would have said it if she knew the meaning?? She loves her job and would not want to ruin her career. She made a mistake as we ALL do. I misuse words all the time.

  174. I think the news show in the morning is getting out of hand and totally unprofessional. It seems to be a social meeting for them and a long drawn out news report for us. 🙁

  175. Bump the racism part with all that’s going on with Brian Williams, bill o ‘Reilly making up stories ..you would sit up here. And so called make up a word..that’s very unprofessional… whether you knew it was real or not as a news anchor you have to. Remain factual and professional while on air at all times.. call it jiggawhatever you want off air

  176. Okay, this “journalist” used a word she didn’t know the meaning of? Yet she used the word in speaking of a black music style, not, say, a traditional Broadway musical style? Uh-huh.

They need to stop letting tricks with no qualifications beyond their looks handle the news.

  177. Right on Debbie… I love to laugh at the no life haters who are offended by this kind of incident and try to make issue of it.. rather than have a chuckle and move on like NORMAL people… speaks volumes of why they are miserable and cant tell their ass from a hole in the ground.

outl0strokewidth0 strokec3 Kristi. I came from a racial family. Although I am not racist. I didn’t even know what that word meant. I had to cal my dad and ask him. So sorry you have to put up with all this nonsense. I’m sure you didn’t know what it meant as I didn’t. People that are racists are going to be the ones to make a big deal. No matter what there’s always going to be racist in this country. Remember misery loves company so all these people complaining are
    Miserable
    People and need a job or life. }

  179. She’s not a talented news reporter, nor did she know what the word meant..probably heard it along the way and didn’t know the meaning. Just a pretty face without any sense. She says lots of dumb stuff.

  180. Too funny to see the FOX apologists come on here and say “judge not lest ye be judged” even though Kristi used the offensive word to be judgmental!

  181. Come on, really? First of all Lady Gaga sings Pop…Secondly, no way does she not know what that word means.. Should she lose her job? I don’t think so, but her boss had better get her some strong insensitivity training post haste.. Nobody is perfect, but she has a responsibility in her job to act and be more educated , and at the very least more sensitive than this!

  182. sometimes people just say shit not realizing it.. I said honkey to a white lady at guitar center once..it was akward cause I didn’t mean it the way I said it…

  183. She uses the textbook worthless apology phrase *If I offended you, I am sorry* then says she didn’t know the meaning of a word she chose to use on-the-air. Methinks she has used to word many times before otherwise, how would it come to her lips at that moment to describe Gaga’s music.

WOW! This sums up the FoxNews commentator scenario perfectly.

  184. Ooooooo wait until Rev Sharpton gets a hold of this one!! Lol What ever happen to sticks n stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me?? Get over it lord almighty freedom of speech!! Which you can also enjoy because of ummmmm who was it again????

  185. yep.. not a wise choice of words… lady gaga was great… the ignorant people who blame “Fox” just shows the shallow – narrow minded sheep that post… take off the blinders, do some research… there have been many more MSNBC commenters fired – suspended – demoted due to saying stupid / untrue things on air than Fox… try getting your news from Multiple sources so you hear all sides of an issue…

  186. Karen–If I called you or a group you are a member of a nasty, offensive term, would you think it was “just a word”?

  187. It’s interesting that she gets a pass from some of you for using a word she’s not familiar with and her chosen profession is journalism, broadcast journalism. People rely on her for her alleged expertise. If a doctor gave a cancer patient Alzheimer’s meds and claimed he didn’t know they didn’t treat cancer, most folks would be justified in pursuing a malpractice lawsuit. She’s a professional, she behaved unprofessionally, and it was offensive. Viewers have a right to express their disappointment. I don’t think she should lose her job, but she doesn’t merit a pass for such irresponsible behavior either.

  188. This news anchor is part Hispanic and has African American in her background. They talked about it during Black History Month last year. So she is not white. Jigaboo was originally a word for a Jazz musician, primarily used in the South. Apparently, it means something else nowadays, and I still can’t figure out what, because Lady Gaga is white, and that’s who this woman was referring to.

  189. We grew up in my Grandpa’s home back in the 50s and 60s, in Cleveland. We heard words that merely became the usual every day words from grandpa. Some we knew not to repeat. Some just slipped past our inner sensors as being normal.
When my sister was about 19 yrs. old, she went to the paint store, and asked for a quart of blue paint. The clerk asked her what type of blue, and she said, “hunky” blue. There was a nice family on our street that painted their home a deep blue. They were Hungarian. Our brains never made the connection as to our Grandpa’s referral.
Did my sister feel bad when she came home and had it explained to her? YES! Does someone not explaining every single risqué word in the American language make my sister a bad person? NO! It was an accident that happened!

  190. I literally had the look the word up. I’ve heard it twice before. Once by Eddie Murphy in Harlem nights and in the movie porkys. It’s hilarious though. She’s bring it back!

  191. The idiot may have not known what the word meant, which is hard to believe, but she knew it was an insult, and she’s on live television. If you don’t recognize what you’re saying, then stfu and do not use language you don’t understand; you’re only showing your ignorance to millions of viewers.

  192. I tend to believe that she didn’t know the meaning of the word. It isn’t wise to use a word that you don’t the meaning of, especially on a TV broadcast; but I don’t think that it should cost her her job. Those that are calling for her head on a charger most likely have lives that couldn’t stand the kind of scrutiny/judgment that they are leveling against her. Grace and mercy are foregone notions, but the time will come when everybody will need some of both. Amen!

  193. Everytime good, decent a d honorable people overlook a racial slur we condo be is use. Taking offense to its use is not being overly sensitive, it is taking note of its offensive, disrespectful and hatedul nature. Kristi is obviously not mature or knowledgeable enough to handle her responsibilities in a news setting.

  194. I would love to be a fly on the wall around her, since she uses that one word, just how racist is she?

  195. I’m guessing the word she was looking for was ziggityboo…..leave her be….she is not a mean person and by no means a racist….I’m sure we have all let a wrong word slip out every now and then….

  196. I am willing to give Ms. Capel the benefit of the doubt and assume that it was an honest mistake, as she stated. I honestly had a friend in college who thought that an “Aphrodisiac” was “a person of African descent who is abnormally anxious about their health” (he really wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed…).

Maybe a little perspective is in order. In the vast eternal scheme of things, it was not a horribly egregious or unconscionable misuse of language (it didn’t rise to the level of a purposefully slanderous statement, or a fraudulent statement, or something like shouting “fire!” in a crowded theater), but it was certainly embarrassing, and in very poor taste if it wasn’t inadvertent.

That said, journalism (or whatever it is that most local television news passes for these days) is first and foremost a communications enterprise – words are its raw materials and its tools. Consequently, a news anchor that would use a word on the air when she was not certain of its meaning and connotation is obviously not quite ready for “prime time” (as a figure of speech; I get that she is on the morning show, and not on “prime time”). Calling for her to be fired is too harsh, in my opinion; but maybe she should be temporarily reassigned as a morning reporter instead of an anchor, though.

  197. I honestly believe that is totally she is totally innocent. She is so nice! I don’t think she knew the meaning, she said it sitting next to wayne. I’m still a fan of yours Kristi!!!!!

  198. What a bunch of crappy lies and they took the video down because they were embarrassed and like to hide the video in the closet with Fox 8s other skeletons. Its a crap station with crap reporters and crap program managers. All in all Fox is nothing but crap and so is Kristi Capel the fishy smelling twat waffle.

  199. If describing Lady Gaga – PERHAPS she meant to say: “Getting jiggy with it”??? Freudian slip…and deep down really racist? Or just stupid?

  200. If you were her wouldnt you want a pass. It is a type of music from the 50 and 60.. That’s where the phrase do the jig came from.. A dance that was made out of jibaboo music. History 101..she will not make the same mistake twice. Its not wrong its just not politically correct.

  201. Lmao @ porch monkey! Never heard that one before.

I wish people would chill on being so thin skinned, and PC especially when it comes to alleged racial slurs.
We have way too much to think about than offending any race of people.
For instance, beheadings! For crying out loud, y’all, look at our country. We’re going to be fighting another war, here before its over. Will you care about the color of people fighting with us? Or being called a word that is not PC? How about those Super Bugs!? How about Monsanto and GMO’s? The list is endless! Seriously, we’re so arrogant that we let a WORD offend us to the point it makes national news? Pffft!

Ha, Lois I thought ‘Cracker’ meant saltine, too Ooooh now my white parts are sooo offended, along with my red, yellow, and brown parts. Just think Lois, we have lived our whole lives thinking we were being called a saltine cracker, I was never offended, remain un-offended.

Now, before y’all start chewin’ me out. Be careful. my family is extremely blended. 🙂

    Many Blessings!

  202. You people need to get over your self ,racism is always going to be around so just deal with it ,stop worrying about what everyone else is saying. What if whites starting complaining about being called names like cracker , etc. Everyone is equal just different shades of color nobody is superior over the next

  203. They pulled “copyright” BS???? To hide this? Sorry, this was NEWS. Her saying it is news. You can’t copyright it, and even if you could, this would fall under fair use and would be a copyright exception.

  204. I wonder why that station was unable to hire an intelligent woman? A newscaster is supposed to use words for a living, and therefore she should know them. Stop hiring high school cheerleaders to read the news and hire people worth listening to…”she didn’t even know it was a word?” What a cop-out!

  205. Yeah yeah yeah…. Crucify her for trying to say something goofy and it coming out like this…. I really don’t think she was trying to show her “racist side” do you???

I’m sure the “offended” people out there also feel that Samir Shabaz preaching “I hate white people” & “you gonna have ta kill some crackas….you gonna have to kill some of they babies…” is perfectly acceptable though!

Christ you drama queens….. GET A LIFE!

  206. She’s not a racist person at all! The chemistry she has with her co host Wayne is a great friendship there. She probably didn’t mean anything by saying it yes she shouldn’t of used a word she didn’t know the true meaning of but everyone is taking it out of content it always turns into a racist issue just to be more hatred which is now ok against Kristi wrong is wrong! She a nice lady I love fox 8 news.

  207. i’ve used the word “peckerwood” to describe assholes all my life. then at 45 years or so, some black people told me it was a somwhat racist term describing hill folk whites of the lower appalachia. no big deal. actions speak louder than words.

  208. I didn’t even know that was a word or even existed. I’m sure she truly didn’t know because if she did I’m sure she wouldn’t say it on tv. People need to relax. She didn’t mean anything by it. Everyone likes to jump to the conclusion and make accusations that everyone is racist. Get over yourselves.

  209. She’s young enough that she’s probably not familiar with the word (which is good … we’re making progress!). Still, not a good idea to use a word whose meaning you don’t know. Hey, we all make mistakes …. give the lady a break!

  210. Get off it already. Fox 8 is great. She made a mistake like everyone else on this earth has. Who’s going to get picked on tomorrow?

  211. obviously she didn’t know what the word mention because she was referring it to a white person. If she knew it was a racist name for a black person then why did she use it as a adjective to describe Lady Gaga’s extra fluff she adds to her outfits??

  212. Why does anyone even care? Apparently no one has any real life issues to be worried about like survival, food, shelter…etc. This is one of the many symptoms of an affluent society.

  213. I found it so funny because that’s not the most popular term. As far as racial epithets go, its almost obscure. I usually hear it used by militant blacks to describe other blacks who acquiesce to, or shuck and jive for, Ol’ Massa’ I mean, they were performing a piece from ‘The Sound Of Music’. But since I didn’t see the Oscars I assumed the jigaboo thing meant that there was an Al Jolson hologram projected onto a giant marijuana leaf. I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of her total and complete ignorance in this case. Maybe she was just bussin’ what she thought was a ill freestyle, son! I would wish to just highlight her failures an an MC as opposed to branding her a racist. But she definitely spent some formative years around at least one really, really racist person. I mean stage coach racist! Peace. #SuckaMC #KristiCapel

  214. Amazing all the comments on here. I guess us black folks aren’t allowed to get upset when you call us names or use racial slurs which are hurtful. Amazing American culture. Holocaust, never forget, 9/11, never forget, 400 years of slavery, rape, and murder…get over it. Excuses excuses. As a “professional” if you don’t know what a word means, then DON”T SAY IT ON THE AIR.

  215. Google the word jigaboo. What’s the definition? Yeah thought so. She said what she said. A racial slur

  216. I try not to watch these 3 in the morning….but I slipped up this morning and happened to catch this. Not surprised…. I just can’t take the giggling and that traffic person trying to make sure everyone knows she is there …..cackling in the back ground. And the person who posted the remark about the management not watching and not knowing what is going on I agree! I’ll watch Fox News when those 3 are gone.

  217. It is because I’m African-American and know the history of my people in this country that this word (among others) is offensive. And trust, other people offended by it did not have to “look” for a reason to be, although lately we don’t have to look far. It has NOTHING to do with self-righteousness either. If you believe that, you’ll get as much side-eye from me as this Fox “journalist”. Miss me with that bs. Maybe it’s possible that she didn’t know the origin if the word. MAYBE. I have my doubts though and no benefits to go along with them.

  218. Christy i love watching you n wayne so sorry ppl using this as a way to attack u racially im married to a black man n my child biracial as well i knew u didnt mean anything by it not to mention lady gaga is white n so is her music get over it ppl this race against race is rediculous my white son is more discriminated against then my daughter get over your self ppl we are all one do your reasearch we all came about this earth starting as fish!

  219. I was watching this and I assure all of you…. there was NO race tone in that word. People must sit in their perfect body and wait to take a jab at someone. This world is FULL of REAL hate……. focus there and not on stuff like this. Get a F’n clue people! Move on…….

  220. Hell she oughta apologize for not being able to objectively identify a good vocal performance. Her comments were obviously a personal attack on Stefani Germanotta not the vocals.

  221. Why do we allow any “news” personality to express their personal opinion about anything? Aren’t they supposed to report events, not comment upon them? Yes, her words were offensive, but so was the fact they she felt entitled to use “I” at all.

  222. It was really obvious she didn’t know the meaning of the word. Does she have a “no fire” clause in her contract?

  223. She shouldn’t just said, “She has a beautiful voice..” etc.. didn’t need the other part.
Like no, you just leave out the bad, and put the good in.
If you don’t have something nice to day, don’t say it at all.

  224. BLAH,BLAH,BLAH!
    “HONKEY”,”CRACKER”,SO WHAT;BIG DEAL.
I DIDN’T THINK I KNEW FOR SURE WHAT IT MEANT,SO I WENT TO THE URBAN DICTIONARY AND FOUND THIS……….
Redneck 1: My God, did u see that man wearing a trash bag?!
Redneck 2: Yea, its migration season for the jigaboos.
SO WHAT;BIG DEAL. LIKE I SAID ON A FRIENDS FACEBOOK POST – TO MAKE A BETTER IMPACT ON DEFEATING RACISM,FIRST TRY AND CONVINCE THE YOUTH CULTURE TO STOP BLASTING THEIR STEREO SYSTEMS WITH “here a ‘n’,there a ‘n’,everywhere a ‘n,n’!”

  225. People! She’s sitting and working with Wayne Dawson, and she’s a bit dingy. This girl didn’t mean anything racial by it!!!! Get over it.

  226. And Jimmy says: “O Boy lets get on the race trane and railroad her out of town OMG get over your selfs stop with all the hating she’s a nice lady! Look at yourself before you judge her!”

Where were you when Don Imos made his famous jigaboo statement? And did you say the same them about him getting fired or was that just because he was a low-down racist white guy?

    Really Jimmy, REALLY?

  227. Well at least she didn’t call it Nigga music. ha ha ha
In today’s world, who knows what’s Kosher. Oooppps I mean, ok to say on the air, or off the air, or in private, or public. . . .it’s all way out of hand.

My advice is “Get a friggen grip people and chill out.” And this is from a white, honky, cracker, Gringo. Don’t see me getting all upset, Do ya? hahahaha

  228. I don’t believe Christi would say anything to disrespect Wayne Dawson at all! They clearly like each other and consider one another as part of the Fox News “family”. They always compliment each other, even in their clothing every day, so it appears that they are great friends as well as co-workers! Live & let live!

  229. What an idiot thing to say………………Jigaboo is a racist term. I think she knew it too, because they both laughed. Unprofessional.

  230. Remember Don Imus calling the Rutgers Univ. women basketball team “nappy-headed hos”? What happened to him? It must go both ways.

  231. The word “jig” refers to a dance. She probably thought she was making up a whimsical variant to the word and her subconscious filled it in with an existing word. I doubt she was motivated by racism, just poorly placed flakiness.

  232. If you think that words interpret hate & racism than there is no room for your ignorance in this current modern world we live in. ” Nigger” could mean “best friend”. & “buddy” could mean your enemy.

  233. I don’t know if she is a racist and I don’t care. I don’t think our society is sensitive either, however, that word on the news in regards to Lady Gaga and thr musicians behind her is unacceptable no matter what. Jiggaboo…really? That is what they called children slaves and slaves it’s horrible that anyone in their right right mind would say it, claim they didn’t know it and then apologize for it. She said it to a black man an older one.

  234. I had always thought jigaboo meant dancing around and being silly. Had no clue it was such an offensive thing. Well crap, I guess I am an ignorant, uninformed racist horrible person. Lighten the hell up. There are honest mistakes, and there are just mean people. She made a mistake, stop the lynching already.

  235. exactly what was she trying to say about Lady Gaga’s music? What word would she substitute?
She knew exactly what it referenced and it seems that is a word she uses quite commonly and comfortably. The fact that her co anchor was black did not deter her. The stupidity is staggering.

  236. Danny “Jigaboo” is not a type of music, you are thinking “jitterbug”. Type the word in Google and see what comes up on the definition. The only thing I could find was “A black person.
Early 20th century: related to slang jig (in the same sense); compare with the pair bug, bugaboo.”
No dance, no music. Seems like ignorance spreads like a disease

  237. “Lady” Gag-ya. She is what she is… If she had as many sticking out of her as she has had stuck in her she would resemble an odd looking porcupine. Jus’ sayn’…

  238. So let me get this straight… she was calling a white singer an archaic term that some black folks once found offensive and somehow that’s a big newsworthy deal for the politically correct radical liberal pukes in the world to rally around? Think about it people…

  239. You people doing all the ranting and raving are no better. How many of you know what a “jig” is???? It’s a damned DANCE! It has NOTHING to do with race. Although I too have heard to words “jig-a-boo”, I must confess that I (like Kristi) do not know what it means. Any of you 100% perfect?? If you say yes, you are a DAMNED LIAR!! Get over it. She made a mistake. So What?? Hillary has misspoken a boatload of times—no outrage there though is there!!!

  240. To use a known racist word is indeed ignorant, but aren’t we all ignorant at some point in our lives? To attack someone (a daughter, wife, mother) you do not know based on a potential mistake is hateful. I’d rather be ignorant…

  241. Was perusing a webpage called “Origins of Racist Terms” and came across this… seems black folks like to use the term on even darker skinned than themself blacks. Usage: Very dark-skinned Black people. Usually used among lighter-skinned African-Americans to refer to ones of very dark complexion. Used in the 1975 movie “Cooley High.” Often shortened to “Jig.”

    Find it here: http://www.thebirdman.org/Index/Others/Others-Doc-Race&Groups-General/+Doc-Race&Groups-General-General&Msc/RacistTerms&Origins.htm

  242. I am a service tech, a lot of my job involves working with people. If at any point I put my foot in my mouth and offended someone Intentional or unintentional, my boss would totally understand that I made a mistake and was apologetic while showing me the door. I am paid to be a professional and so is she. let’s keep it real!

  243. I am a service tech, a lot of my job involves working with people. If at any point I put my foot in my mouth and offended someone Intentional or unintentional, my boss would totally understand that I made a mistake and was apologetic while showing me the door. I am paid to be a professional and so is she. let’s keep it real!

  244. I’m sorry…but you’re an idiot. What educated “journalist” (and I use that term losely since you work for FOX news) wouldn’t know the origin of that word? From where did you think it originated? What DID you think it meant. Again…you’re an idiot.

  245. She’s just one of the symptoms of the stupidity in this country that believes it has an equivalency of value and entitlement for whatever they think to say outloud

  246. Surprised, not a FOX like commentary I don’t see her being around long Fox must clean their own house! A very stupid thing to say! Pretty obvious she wasn’t in the complete know, used in the right context isn’t to far off the “N” word to most Older Black Folk!

  247. I’m sure people making remarks as if the lady is a rasust. Really! I think rasism is a bit reversed these days. Its constantly an issue for attention or some sort of drama, woah is me bull crap. Really you think the very successful lady went on live television to insult ya next her black co- worker. Classic! I think she was trying to be coil with a slang word she had no idea was a racial slurs. That’s because she more then likely was not socialized with racist crowd of any kind. Therefore, you start your cast stones, trying to split hair here. Get over your own prejudice demons first.

  248. You ignorant lack of “intellect humans” keep racism thriving in everyday culture with pointing out every single thing people do or say as racist. MOVE ON! and stop using it as an excuse to keep the subject of racism alive.

Lets not forget that every race of humans in our complete history has enslaved its people at one time or another, cleansed, called, named, marginalized, marked, stamped, tattooed etc.

Europe enslaves its people into Socialism, thinking that there is no way but a common thread of livelihood among its people.

The Kings of Africa sold out its own people to the Spanish and White explorers. In short all races have done it!

Does anyone ever pay attention to the expressions or things that come out of Wayne Dawson’s mouth? or Kenny Crumpton.

Get over the political correctness and offensive rhetoric, move on and better yourselves instead of tearing down every single thing people do or say. Having a chip on your shoulder and being angry of the things of the past and present don’t do a damn thing for improving life.

Our President brings up the Empowered “monarch” personality and does nothing as he said he would to improve things. Its still one side or the other, in other words he butchers Martin Luther King dreams and Warps it with Malcolm X’s vision.

    That’s it! what are questions..

  249. C’mon people!!! We are talking about a TV station in Cleveland!!! Cleveland!! The “Butt Joke City of the U.S.A”. What is interesting in Cleveland?! Only thing good coming “out” or leaving that city were the Baltimore Ravens!! A Super Bowl Champion. And who leaves Miami to go to Cleveland and retire? It’s supposed to be the other way around!

  250. In response to “Jimmy”‘s comment: News readers on TV, and in writing, have an ethical responsibility to be a little more circumspect than to use 1) a word she didn’t know the meaning of (which is completely and simply just stupid to use as an excuse) and 2) to not to know the meaning might drive one to look it up before using it. She said it, and she can’t un-say it. For those who defend her actions in the comments to this story, you really ought to think about the possibility of her using a term which was an expletive against you, your religion, color, shoe-size, height, weight, name, place of birth, or IQ. All it takes is change the “subject” of her verb to turn this into any number of racial, religious, preference, nationality or other attacks. She was wrong to use the word and needs to apologize sincerely, openly and stop trying to sweep this under a rug. It is not going to go away otherwise.

  251. I don’t think people should be ultrasensitive when it comes to the spoken word, but as a person of the media, one has a responsibility to be educated enough to not use words they do not know the meaning of. We should all treat others like we want to be treated . . . racial slurs of any kind to any people, no matter the race, are offensive. I am puzzled as to why Kristi Capel would use that word in reference to Lady Gaga’s performance when I think it was a very moving rendition of Sound of Music. If Julie Andrews loved it, it’s okay with me.

  252. A morning show is not a “news show.” These personalities are not journalists. Personally, I can’t stand Fox 8 in the morning, and if Channel 8 happens to be on the TV when I turn the set on, I promptly change the channel if I see Fox 8 in the Morning. I like news. That ain’t news. It’s not even human interest or entertainment. It’s the very definition of money-saving filler. Two “beauties” (and beauty is in the eye of the beholder) prattle on while respectable old Wayne Dawson provides a light version of gravitas to make it official. I could not care any less about these women’s thoughts on the Oscars, pop culture, race relations or anything else. Their only purpose is to serve as TV “friends” for housewives and retired homebodies who are comforted by the chat and banter in the morning hours. The main attraction is getting to see the new day’s hairstyle or choice of earrings or clothing. News has nothing to do with any of this. It saves Fox 8 a pretty penny. “News” is the cheapest thing for an affiliate to air.
As for “racism,” her first apology was clearly insincere, but I seriously doubt that she actually meant to use a racist epithet on the air. After all, her co-host is a distinguished black man. Who knows what she really thinks about black people? If she is a racist, is that grounds for firing her? You would also have to fire half the cameramen and executives at the stations. If she intentionally used a sexist or racist slur, she should be sacked. But that’s not the case here. No offense, but Capel is not a very bright lady, and she used this word because most likely she heard it in childhood, and the funny sound of it stuck in her mind. I for one don’t associate Lady Gaga with black music and the Sound of Music ain’t roots music, so how is any of that “j******”?

  253. wow, people talk trash about inbreeders in Arkansas and West Virginia, maybe you should get the water checked IDK?Words like “honky” “peckerwood ” “Nigger””Bootlip””Jew” “Kyke””Tonto””Chief””Chink””Slanteyes””Wetback””Frog””Kruat””Pollock””Fag””Dyke””Cunt” “Asshole””Limey””Mick””Whop”(sorry if I left someone out)are interpretive words ,meaning how the listener perceives them. you can be offended or content with your own self image .You control your own emotions,Don’t let someone else dictate your mood and feelings.Have a blessed Day.Sincerly, Some Redkneck from a po’dunk town out in the sticks.

  254. First off to all you morons out there stop using the word racist unless its actually racism which you dont usually see because to do so for example a person would have to be hating on an animal or alien from another planet BECAUSE THATS WHAT RACISM IS HATE BETWEEN 2 RACES we are all apart of the human race doesnt matter what color you are we are all apart of the same race you idiots. Hatred between a person of one color against a person of a different color is just plain ignorance, stupidity and and probably some sort of low self esteem because with all the things you can find out there to hate someone over choosing the color of their skin just means your too stupid and lazy or just needed to find anyway you could to hate that person for which makes you pathetic as well. As for this chick saying the word jiggaboo are you people serious its just a frickin word, she didnt use it in reference to anyone of color she used it as an adjective to describe lady gagas dance thingy which voids its ability to be called a racist slur so get a life if you need to go thru life analyzing every word out of everyoones mouth in hopes of being able to call someone a racist then you need help.

  255. Why is everyone still on this racist crap anyway??? I don’t remember growing up having a slave in the home, why are we all still being punished for something that our LATE ancestors may have done anyway??? I think, truthfully, that they will never stop claiming racism. Get over it…..it was something in everyone’s past. PAST being the key word. It’s time everyone grew up and just stop all the hate and stop with the racist card every time a white person says something, or if a white cop kills a black….let me ask this,…..if a black cop killed a white kid, what would be said?? NOTHING

  256. People who get offended by her stupidity are clearly moronic! So what she misspoke and didn’t understand the word! Good god people get over it!

  257. Just because she used the word did not mean she meant it as a racial slur! When are you guys going to get over yourselves and realize racism is in the past??!! Every time someone says something that may or may not offend you the first thing out of yours mouths is “he/she is racist”!! It’s no different then people off the street using these words, but God forbid someone in the public eye uses it..then it becomes a huge deal!! You guys are pathedic!! Remember what your saying about this the next time one of you say “honkey” or “cracker” etc!! Pull your damn underwear out of your asses and lighten up!! Her Co anchor is African American. .do you really think she meant that term as a racial slur??!!! You guys are seriously ridiculous!! Should be ashamed of yourselves!!! Unreal! Smh!

  258. I am glad to see someone finally speak freely without looking over both shoulders first! I am white, and I am not going to feel like I owe everyone that isn’t white. Instead of bitchin about what is politically correct, just let everyone speak freely…..We are still allowed to do that in this country, Right? Don’t bitch moan and complain how it offended you, sack up, shut up, and change the channel….BET anyone?

  259. When a black family moves into your neighborhood and paints their house the most gaudy shade of blue, is it all right to call it jigga-blue?

  260. People use the word ‘REDNECK’ all the time, and nobody goes ballistic over it. You know why? Because they DON’T KNOW WHAT IT MEANS, that’s why. The White Slaves were called ‘Rednecks’ because when they worked too long in the sun, their necks would turn red from sunburn. Go yo YouTube and look up ‘White Slavery’. If you are going to take offense at something, save it for something that really matters, or else no one will listen to you anymore if you get all upset over little thing that happens. Nobody here is GOD, and they cannot read that Woman’s mind and heart. If she said she didn’t realize what the word meant, who are you to judge her, AS IF you know what her intent was?

  261. I didn’t know it was a real word either. Politicians, teachers, AND even reporters are human too! Kristi, I’m sorry that some people actually feel they can bend down, pick up a rock and actually have the nerve to throw it!!!!!!!! We will give you a couple of morning to be reserved and then we want your pep back!

  262. Always interesting how people who are not African-American are not offended by racist remarks directed at/or about African-Americans….

  263. 1) She knew what it meant and said it accidentally. Then she lied about it. She is a lying racist. 2) Any White person who says, “oh call me cracker, honky, etc., it doesn’t bother me,” is an idiot. Of COURSE it doesn’t bother you. YOU are a member of the privileged majority! Oh, and I’m White..so ignorant people saying “get over it” won’t fly with me. 3) I’m disgusted that there are still so many racist and ignorant people in the world. YOU are the reason our society sucks. And condoning it and excusing racism perpetuates it just as much as doing it directly.

  264. A white woman once asked me “does all black men have big **** and I said well I haven’t slept with all of them. I did not find that racist just stupid but I’m sure some people would have been offended. Kristi just said something stupid don’t think she’s racist. I hope not.

  265. So the song by Will Smith “Getting Jiggy with It” is acceptable? LMAO Or how about the song on 96.5 in Cleveland that has the lyrics “Put some nigga in it”…that’s acceptable? LMAO

  266. BREAKING: FOX News has offered Capel her own prime-time two-hour long talk show and she has accepted Bill O’Reilly’s marriage proposal.

I love how she felt emboldened after saying it once due to her co-hosts laugh, so she repeated it. Nice job, Cleveland.

  267. I haven’t heard that word in decades. Since the video is gone, I can’t judge her guilt or innocence in using it. Words are added to our language everyday – and many are also forgotten. If Blacks, like the White people in my circles, would stop using the N word, I could see it going the way of ‘hark’ and ‘forsooth’. It just isn’t a kind or polite term, and I hate hearing it. Unfortunately, because toddlers are hearing and using it, it will be part of our language for at least the next couple of generations. Perhaps one day, it will lose its negative intonations, but I won’t live to see that day.

  268. blacks walking around with their pants down around their knees and holding themselves while walking down the street offends me and no one cares so i dont care if people are offended by what she said!

  269. What really amazes me is that the average African American is not racist. It’s the other races that are racist towards mostly African Americans. Why ? What do we have that no one else has? I really think it’s the beauty of the skin. Who really knows, please enlighten me.Kristi capel be careful of your words.

  270. Comparing Will Smith’s “Gettin’ Jiggy Wit It” to the term jiggaboo shows how ignorant some people are. “Jiggy” means uninhibited and energetic. “Jiggaboo” is a racial slur for dark-skinned Black people. Education is your friend.

  271. And they wasted air time on that? Kind of reminds me of children..”woo, I’m telling cause you said that”. I’d love to see it broken down into dollar and cents, exactly how much money was wasted, on these few minutes of broadcast gullibility.
The fact that they even aired that is an insult to the intelligence. But I suppose we are all responsible as viewers. We’ve proven time and time again, that no matter what walk of life we come from, we are nothing but silly little children who are too stupid, blind and petty, to dismiss these strategies and focus on other things life.

  272. just to clarify…cracker is not a reference to plantation owners cracking a whip on slaves. It`s an old florida word referring to cattle drivers snapping whips to herd cattle.

  273. The younger Generation is Ignorant to the words used un fairly in the past by all races,That being said,No she shouldn t have said a word she didn t know the meaning of..And Yes she needs to check her self before she speaks IF she cares to remain on the TV spotlight. But I don t think that firing her is the answer..Just my opinion..GOD Bless America with our Crazy a** es

  274. i would’nt apoligize..they all the time calling us cracker and honky and its funny ..this is a free country ..freedom of speech rock on girl

  275. How many people out there are just ok with how racist the system is that they pass off racist jargon as a slip? How many people out there will continue to admit they like the racist system by saying things like we as a country are too sensitive? No we are a murdering genocidal country and all of you who believe that this woman should be allowed to spout propaganda that continues to fuel our racist society are no better. This thread made me sick. Great job white America on fixing your racist minds.

  276. I find it hard to believe she didn’t know what “jigaboo” meant, but if she truly didn’t then perhaps she should have educated herself before using it. For all you FOX News bashers let’s not forget CNN’s playing of “nigger nigger nigger” when they were talking about some elderly black lady who is still driving.

  277. Maybe they should start a mandatory class that teaches every single racial slur that has ever been used, since the beginning of time, against every group of people. That way we all know what can be said and not said.

  278. Is that any different than when a man or woman refers to their significant other as their “boo” it means the same thing

  279. Oh lawd here we go again. I am a “Heinz 57” I guess you could say. I am half blooded Cherokee Indian and the other half is mixed with Latin, Irish and African. I don’t take offense to every word or phrase I hear that is considered “offensive”. I love everyone and every race. I make jokes about my heritages but I also educate others about the truths of my heritages.

People please stop hating. I never understood why it was so horrible for a white person to call a black person n$$$er . Oh, it’s horrible, it’s so insulting and offensive, yet blacks can call each other n$$$er all day and it’s not offensive or insulting. Look the word is either insulting and offensive or it’s not. To say it’s not okay for whites or others races to call a black person n$$$er but it’s fine for blacks to call each other n$$$er is very racial and hatred within itself. It also makes blacks more racists and bigamist than anyone else because blacks always find things racial motivated whether it was meant to be that way or not. Of all my races, I love claiming the Cherokee Indian side because that side is not racists. American Indians do not discriminate against other races or ourselves. American Indians are truly respectful of all races and each other.

Stop the hate and learn from American Indians who are truly respectful of all, no matter how we are treated we don’t make federal cases out of it, we just keep loving on all. Blacks are always talking about white people are always trying to make us slaves, pull us back down into those days of slavery. Let me point out that because American Indians were uneducated our land was stolen from us by the white man. Not only that we were made slaves and are still slaves (remember the white man put us on small pieces of land (called reservations)and we are really forbidden to come off those pieces of land and be able to mingle with other races).

I didn’t write this to fuel any fire (but knowing how some make everything out to be disrespectful…it will be made out to be racially motivated. (Remember I am Cherokee Indian, Irish, Latin and African. So I am on both sides of the fence.) I just want to open your eyes and hopefully get a few people to stop and look at things and become less offended. Words are not always meant to harm. Now, some people DO mean to harm and disrespect with words. Not everyone does, only some do. If you don’t want others calling you n$$$er, then don’t call each other that. So instead of classifying all whites as racist and disrespectful, why not laugh at these remarks sometimes and just look at them as humorous, only meant as funny not meant to harm. Please, stop the hatred. I love all of you, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. The ones that are known to be openly racists, let them have it, not in violence but educate them. Let them know how you felt when you heard what they said, Peacefully teach them. Please. I love you all. May God bless you all with peace, love and total happiness. 🙂

  280. Another case of looks over substance. She’s a “JOURNALIST??”In what country?? But to all the FOX-haters, Brian Williams (NBC) and Dan Rather (CBS) just to name two REAL reporters who messed up. Don’t blame Fox for hiring the bimbo; I’m sure she has an advanced degree from Barbizon! Bet she knows lots of derogatory, demeaning slurs-hell we all do, but most of us know those terms work both ways–they come back to bite you right in your sanctimonius ass! Thanks for the vent, guys

  281. Anyone who pauses before using such a term has to know that it is offensive. This woman may or may not be a racist, but she is beyond ignorant for using a word in public that she does not know the meaning of……fired may be a bit harsh, only because stupidity is not illegal…..

  282. You gotta love the ‘I did not know it was even a word’ part of the apology. Really you are a news anchor and you just throw terms out there that you did not even know were words?!! That makes her a liability, even on a Fox network !!

  283. It’s a word (sort of)….get over it. Everyone looks to get offended because they have nothing better to do then to sit at there computer and type the same 26 letters in a variety of ways. Get your head out of your behind and get on with your lives. 🙂

  284. hey why do people get to call the lady on fox news names .. put her down … the people on this board that are posting ,, u all are stupid grow up get life I mean really grow up now.

  285. It is time for people to get real lives. Can we no longer say ‘dance a jig’, etal. Get your heads out of your butts and thicken up your skin. Everyone anymore is just looking for a chance to sue someone and get money they do not have to work for. Politically correct is just an acronym for I am totally stupid and have nothing else to focus on except my own prejudices and want to force them on other people because I have nothing more interesting to do with my words and time. Grow up!!!!!!!!

  286. I cannot understand some of these comments . Yes people are going to be offended. I was raised if someone called me a wop or a dago to fight because these words are offensive to italians. I agree she is for someone who went to college couldn’t come up with another word she knew what she said

  287. How is it that conservatives and their news outlets are forever tripping over their offensive remarks? Could it be that in reality they believe this stuff?
    What an awful bunch.

  288. She is suppose to be a professional representing the community that she serves. All you people who don’t want to hold folks accountable as a (professional)?
Forgive her if she said it off work at her local bar in front of you who think it’s O.K.

  289. People who get offended by words deserve to be offended…along with a good kick in the okole. Words can’t hurt you, get over it, jigaboos.

  290. In other news, there are children still hungry and adults everywhere who cannot form a proper English sentence via text.

  291. If you didn’t know the meaning of the word or how to use it, then why in the hell would you even use it? And the fact that it was used in the right context is even more disconcerting. You as an news anchor reflect badly on the Fox network. You missed your calling when you decided to become a journalist. And your apology is not accepted. It was nothing more than a copout!! And btw, before anyone lashes out at me……I’m Caucasion. Regardless of whether this slur is made by whatever race…..it should never have been made in the first place and especially if the moron using it doesn’t know its meaning.

  292. In response to the person, whom I am sure is black, I can also say with pure honesty and knowledge all of the dislike comments, they are definitely and unequivocally coming strictly from racist, bigotted BLACKS. I have been around way to long and I am more than just somewhat aware of what blacks are taught to think about whites. I have bi-racial members in my family and I have no problem with them or others. It is just weak minded undereducated people that continually disrespect others who will never see the forest for the trees. Start pulling up your pants, stop calling each xxxigers etal. Until you became part of the human race you will never be respected.

  293. Oh geezzzz… who flipping cares!! Sooooo tired of everyone throwing around the race card..maybe she didn’t know what it really meant.. she is a little dingy but I still like her. She apologized. ..get on with it already

  294. I hear black people call themselves and others that all the time, so the word is desensitized.

Calling yourselves that doesn’t make it ok; just an inward projection of racism.

So if it is ok to call yourself that, but not ok of her to say, that is reverse racism.

  295. Now you know that over half of the people here didn’t even hear what she said because they didn’t watch the video or catch it on TV. They just read the headlines and said “OMG YOU RACIST B*TCH!” without actually seeing/hearing the actual words she said and how she said it.

As far as people calling her a racist – OMG LETS GET STARTED HERE I CAN’T WAIT:

Black comedians ESPECIALLY say and use some of the most racist language and slurs against white people (tends to be more white men) that I have ever heard. That Kat Williams for starters while his almost entirely black audience sits there and howls over the crap that comes out of his mouth. These comedians use racist language and slurs so much you would think they are trying to “play catch up” for all of the sins of our ancestors and some really stupid people in today’s world. That Larry Wilmore is another one, just last night I caught a few minutes of him talking about Giuliani saying that Obama didn’t love his country. Wilmore listened to some of what he said while playing it on the air then stopped it, analyzed it in a way fit for his audience then proceeded to try to “figure out” what Giuliani meant by his remarks by playing back OLD footage of Obama speaking when he was running for President; saying how great our country was and how his white grandparents (who were as American as American Pie so to speak) helped to raise him. In the end Larry Wilmore sat as if he were really puzzled acting like he couldn’t figure out what Giuliani was talking about. Since he had played video of Obama praising the country (during election mind you, the time when politicians spew the biggest heapings of BS you ever hear) he sat there and acted like there could only be one real thing Giuliani was doing and in the end he called him a racist and said “I just had to play that race card”. NOTHING Giuliani said was racist, NOTHING! He didn’t mention color or race not once NOR did he insinuate anything close. He looks at what Obama has done – sees Obama doing nothing about the executions that have happened to our own people overseas, then the Benghazi incident where Obama did NOT send in help to get those people to safety (in fact he REFUSED to send help)and he just figured nobody that loves their country would sit and do NOTHING about it. LARRY WILMORE is a racist, not Giuliani. I could have sat Wilmore in his place for all the things he was saying that he used to cancel out any reasoning that Giuliani would have that would lead him to say Obama didn’t love the country. WOW I would have loved to set that ignorant man in his place.

In addition, its not just the black comedians (I know I only mentioned two but there are many more) its black people as well. They play the whole “I’m not a racist I just recognize racism when I see it and call people on it” role then don’t even realize themselves how racist THEY are. Its all good when they say “…white people be like” but let one white person say “…you people are all the same” or “…black people be like” and holy sht now its call Al Sharpton because white man is being racist. I am so sick of the one way street bullshit. Almost everyone has a little racism somewhere along the lines, some just MUCH MORE than others.

  296. This is such bull. What does Capel mean she didn’t know the meaning of the term? The context in which she used it was flawless. And if she’s an on-air news person irresponsible enough to use language she doesn’t even understand, what’s she DOING there?

I’d never heard of her before this, but I knew immediately she HAD to work for Faux News. No other broadcast “news” organization would hire someone idiotic enough to say such a thing publicly.

She’s a coward. If she’s going to spew racist venom, she should at least own up to it. Unless and until she does, her apology doesn’t mean SQUAT.

Capel would be off the air as I write this if she worked for an organization with any integrity. But we know she’s among like minds. She belongs in that cesspool of ignorant, racist, atavistic amateurs. Surely, she must know that she will NEVER advance beyond where she is.

Just like that thing in her head technically called a “brain,” her career is dead.

Ditto for Wayne Dawson, chuckling at Capel’s use of the term — like some Steppin’ Fetchit clone. I know damned well he knew what the term meant! Any credibility he had has vanished as well — if not even MORE assuredly and completely than Capel’s. A man who has no integrity or self-respect cannot expect to be regarded with respect by others.

    They BOTH should be fired!

  297. Everyone remain calm. Your lives will continue as scheduled with minimal dramatic effect. Get up in the morning, take a shower and go to work and I promise you by noon, you’ll have something new to gossip about.

  298. Oh so when a white person uses a racial slur, everyone says it acceptable and oh it was just a mistake. When black people do it, you so often hear,” well they call themselves that why can’t we? Justifying racial slurs from either side makes you the problem.

  299. BTW the only prejudice I walk with is that of intelligence.. Man or Woman… Gay or Straight, White or Black, or any other.. Rich or Poor… I could care less.. Dumb or intelligent?? Yeah I hate stupidity and I admire intelligence.. that’s my only prejudice..

That’s why I don’t apologize.. I find the requirement to apologize for one’s own self offensive. People who apologize to me come off as weak willed. Don’t punch me and then say sorry. OWN THAT SHIT! I will like you for it… A Lot…

  300. The term” jigaboo” was originally a slur on the Irish, from the 1905 show “The Yankee Girl”:

For I’ve got rings on my fingers and bells on my toes
Elephants to ride upon, my little Irish rose,
So come to your nabob, and next Patrick’s Day
Be Mrs. Mumbo Jumbo Jigaboo J. O’Shea.

  301. Seriously people? Here we go again. If you are white, how dare you say a no-no word. If you are black, you have standing permission to say a no-no and no one cares. *sigh*

  302. Look here’s the thing it was a word I am sure some people have been called worse so LET IT GO…. My goodness there are many many other things going on in the world and pine over this seams petty…
Why don’t you start focusing on thing that really matter in life. those of you that have a problem with it I have a idea for you pick up the remote and change the channel.. That will fix your problems…
Personally I really enjoyed Fox 8 in the mornings.. and still catch them online… Have a Nice Day!!!

  303. How about everyone grows a set and realizes that this is how the world works. People are gonna say things. Get over yourselves.

  304. Get a life people!!!!
    Kristi Chapel is Awesome!
    Jealous Nasty People!!!
Cast the first stone all thee who Judge!!!
I hope you are someday Judged the way you Judge! It was a mistake and I lot of people laugh when stuff happens!

  305. I am just appalled at this type of remark coming out of a news anchor’s mouth. Someone in her past used that word and she used it in the proper context. Its embarrassing and certainly not up to any standard of human decency. Its a racist, bigoted remark. I don’t know if her beauty pageant crown was too tight on her head or if she only learned to wave her hand but either way, it is grossly, grossly inappropriate.

  306. If you are offended that is your problem you are the raciest for thinking it means something. its a word, sticks and stones will break your bones words will never hurt you Political correctness will destroy this country.IT IS CENSORSHIP BY LIBERALS TO TRY AND CONTROL THE COUNTRY,

  307. Wow all you jiggaboos need to calm the hell down! God forbid somebody say something you don’t approve of. Who gives a shit!?! I wish you would do or say something about ISIS and how they are killing Christians, why isn’t that offensive to all of you ?! I for one believe her not actually knowing jiggaboo was an actual word. Do you think she is that stupid to say it live on television and In front of a black colleague of hers if she did? Get real people.

  308. It’s 2015 we have bigger problems then her saying something on the air. Like u never use bad words before. ITS A WORD PEOPLE GET OVER IT

  309. Its funny after all this, not one jiggaboo has complained.. Now if jiggaboos aren’t mad why should any us be… I read many comments but none by an actual jiggaboo.. #gofigure

  310. JIGABO JIGABO JIGABO JIGABO now with that said I am not apologizing and I don’t give a crap who is offended cause if you don’t like it then you can go to my POLITICALLY CORRECT OFFICER Hellen Waite so if you want political correctness you can go to Hellen Waite..:)

  311. I want to hear what she said! Someone please put the video back up so that we all can see and voice OUR opinion about her comment. But most importantly let us voice our opinion about what should happen to her! By taking the video down you have engaged in censorship!

    Wynne DOC CLAYTON

  312. who cares i hear people call there selfs or call orther people worst things people there is more things to be concern about

  313. I was shopping for fishing tackle once with a black friend. The store clerk asked “Do you ever fish with jigs?”
I replied, ” You mean, other than my friend Freddie here?”
    That’s funny. Get a brain.

  314. Ok Cleveland, that was an awesome topic! What’s next? Anything important like maybe the Indians? Oops sorry i forgot I’m not supposed to speak what i was taught in school. You get the idea. “There’s a little crazy in everyone
And a lot of work in the world to be done.”

  315. looks like the only ones that are complaining are the real jigaboos . if it was a black news anchor that said it no one would say a word.

  316. Jesus H!! E-fuckin goddam nuf ! ill come back when it looks like u have an intelligent, honest forum from the heart & brain, not some shit overheard at the corner bodega or over coffee & danish. See that? “Bodega” & “Danish” This too shall pass–like a kidney stone!

  317. Where is the accountability for her faux pas? The apology only came because of the feedback! She purports to a professional and educated–certainly she should know the gravity of language and the meaning and connotation of jigaboo! Frankly, arrogance and superior attitude for certain persons condition them to believe they have no boundaries and are exempt from accountability! That is why her apology was to appease social media criticism and disclaim her comment as being racially motivated! KWELI

  318. But it’s Co when the black community uses racially aimed comments like CRACKERS HONKY ECT…….GROW THE FUCK UP ITS 2015 not 1915 and it’s all just words that realy don’t mean shit any way

  319. That’s so sad people look to complain about anything and everything ,stop reading into thinks ,if your life is that sad move on. Soooooooooo sad , forget it Kristi

  320. People need to stop being sooooooooooooooshallow. If your life is that bad ,move on. Kristi and the whole gang On fox 8 our normal people too. Guys , lol.

  321. She said this so she could ruin her career. Yeah. Cause jobs are so plentiful in this cesspool we call Cleveland….. Get over it people. It was a mistake.

  322. While I agree that some people do look for reasons to be offended, I think there should be consequences for this one. This was thoughtless and racist. On the flip side. An African American couple came into my store tonight while I was sweeping and mopping…now I’m a bigger guy….and they said to me “you’re sweating, you don’t need to be nervous about us because we’re black” that would be an example of people looking to be offended. I obviously was sweating because I am overweight and was working hard in a huge store that I had been sweeping and mopping for over an hour. I have dated African Americans, am friends with many people of many races, and I’m the most liberal inclusive person you will ever meet. Equality is a right I fight for every day! That is the difference. The people I encountered were looking to be offended by someone. The viewers in this case have a very strong point. Her apology did not seem sincere. And this was just ignorant.

  323. So what, it’s a word, blacks call white people cracker all the time and get away with it, so nut up and leave her alone, she’s a great morning host.

  324. People do make honest mistakes, but she did it on a television program, just didnt seem so innocent. If she’s that careless she should not be reporting the news.

  325. I don’t know who if any one was offended by the statement but if so I don’t know why because I hear different people of different race call each other names but if some one of a different race said it then it is not accepted ! I don’t understand ! The family of Fox 8 seems to be a very close family (team) and there for I would think if some one was upset with that, they then would discuss it with her and forgive and continue on ! Live, Love and Forgive for the statement made not make it a big deal ! God Bless Fox 8 team you are doing a wonderful job ! Hoping to see the team back together soon !

  326. For you who are all up in as about this–it’s clear that she thought she was just making up a nonsensical word– look at the context people!!! It was in reference to Lady Gaga’s music at the Oscars, The Sound Of Music!! Too many people just like to insert themselves into drama and make up crap that just isn’t there!

Let me ask you all this–where is your outrage for every person rapping/singing that uses the “n” word or degrades women? Those are all in proper context!

  327. This is so stupid everyone is acting like they never made a mistake if she was rasist she wouldn’t sit next to Wayne Dawson everyday everyone needs too grow up I’m black and didn’t know the meaning so what everyone is saying is irrelevant you guys are taking it too far it was a mistake if that’s the case every one is rasist every body makes mistakes grow up

  328. If I said it nobody would say anything because I’m black nobody says anything when black people everyday say nigga so you need to just leave it alone it was a mistake

  329. Wow Fox is that bad huh? I’ll have to check it out. In the mean time could you people please stop preaching to me about what I can say or do. It’s very sickening. But, you, please continue to monitor the important things. Being a victim is a way to succeed in this land. Hopefully Sharpton will visit that TV station and swindle some $ to give to the community…good luck.

  330. She used an inappropriate word one time on TV. You can’t chalk it up as she’s racist. Dont like her or the news channel anymore? Good news, you dont have to watch it. She made a mistake, she apologized. Either accept it or not and move on. Think about a time where you said something wrong and imagine it being on live television with x amount of people ripping you apart for it.

  331. If she says she didn’t mean to offend anyone, then enough said already. Wayne Dawson is fine with it.

I think she was just trying to point out that that type of music made it difficult to hear Lady Gaga’s voice. I agree it was hard to hear LG’s voice. Kisti’s point may have far more reaching ramifications – Should Lady Gaga should change her musical arrangements? Or, at least tone it down a bit?

  332. I was called “horse-face” once. I was very hurt but my Clydesdale was pissed! Let’s see, when “they” called me a bitch, I called my dog on them; a “c**t” I hit em with a mackerel; “whore” I stole their money; a crazy old nag, well…yeah, ok, I own that.

  333. I have to admit, I am very conscious about being sensitive to everyone, and never using offense words to anyone. Ironically I just had this exact conversation with my friend. I knew the word “Jigaboo” existed but had no idea what it meant. Until I asked a close friend, I could have used it thinking it meant something like the “boogyman.” But in reality had no idea what it meant. I come from a community that experienced no racial tensions at all. The exact same thing happened to me when a co-worker used the word “wetback,” I had never heard of it before. She, also did not appreciate or know its meaning. People can use words where they think it is harmless and have no idea! If you are not exposed to this hatred, then you are indeed ignorant of all of its terminology. If I were her, I would be very apologetic, I don’t think I would have used that word – but I had no idea what it meant, and I’m 46 years old.

  334. I like how people always say “Its not the intent, its the result of what you say that matters”…How so? If I am talking and said “The word nigger used in the times when slaves were allowed was horrible”, is that offensive because i used the word even though I’m using it when describing how it was demeaning and bad? People need to seriously stop, the world is becoming so sensitive…She did not mean it in a negative manner, so its not negative, end of story…

  335. I don’t think she’s old enough to have ever heard this word used as a racial epithet and believe she may have in the moment thought it was a musical term. Anyone under the age of 40 barely knows the name of their congressional rep. Schools are not teaching kids a history of racial eptithets and through diversity many hear these words and it might be difficult to know what’s acceptable and what isn’t.

  336. I support Kristi. Just saying! What about firing Wayne Dawson for the vulgar comment he made about Kenny’ s skin f____?

  337. You know the whole problem is this we are all in some way or form are racist whether it is about poor people, black people, white people, mexican people etc the problem is you make these statements in front of your friends and family an no one person really knows how your feel. But when you are on national tv and open your mouth an say it you are just stupid. An the other news reporter should have called her out on that right then!!! As our parents use to say IF YOU DON’T HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY ABOUT A PERSON THEN DON’T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!!! It seems now that does not work because all the people who have been holding back their racist thoughts are coming through like at water fall!!!! First thing is this SHUT YOUR MIND OFF THEN THAT WAY YOUR MOUTH WON’T OVER LOAD YOUR BUTT!!!!

  338. why didn’t the gentleman sitting beside her bitch slap her or something, you know something to let her know she was being a moron racist.

  339. i wonder if she mentioned this in her job interview… “oh and another thing, my vocabulary isn’t necessarily that much bigger than a 5 year old’s, so sometimes when i can’t find the right word, i just make up my own”……………………………………………………………….. “i like the ingenuity, you’re hired!”

  340. Who cares stop acting like everyone is perfect, that’s the real problem with media today no one is perfect and if someone took it the wrong way than turn it off. People are being condition to be perfect and if you are not, than you are considered to be a bad person.

  341. If you. Don’t like Fox why the he’ll do you know what she said. Oh you must be watching that straight laced news they never make mistakes. There’s not one of you out there that can say you’ve never said something and regretted it afterwards. Give her a break she’s a nice person and would never say something that would offend someone. She is very much a friend of Dawson’s and Kenny Croptons( oh excuse me I may have spelled his name wrong, punish me!!) Everyone is racist to a point you just tell yourself your not. I don’t care what race you are it’s in you. So get a life and move on don’t judge others or you too will be judged!!

  342. Are you people serious? That young woman is an asset to Fox 8. Do any of you know her well enough to make the awful remarks you are all throwing out there? Everyone is so perfect. None of you have ever said something you didn’t mean to say? Mispronounce a word? I am sure when you all go before your maker everyone will have a spotless record ? There is NO ONE on this earth that is perfect. Especially the ones that throw the stones first and love to run their mouth.

  343. Unbelievable get over yourself. She ment no harm in what she said. People walk around everyday at there jobs saying way worse. I don’t see u getting in trouble. She is one of the best news anchors fox 8 will ever have. And as a women of color I didn’t find it offensive at all.

  344. When you are representing a network you should be careful what you say and ignorance is just a poor excuse not an apology. Strange that a network that seems to encourage this behavior has lately started to be shocked. They and their reporters should be called on the carpet when ever they LIE or use racial catch phrases. Strange how Brian Williams is a pariah and Kristi Capel and Bill O’Reilly are just misunderstood.

  345. amazing to me that she was not suspended how is it that someone who speaks for a living on camera vocalize a word she is not familiar with

  346. It is a racist sler and all you people that think it’s not must be racist to ,and to belive she didn’t know what it meant give me a break my 16 year old grand daughter knew what it meant, it just ho low class she is

  347. Enough is enough! Every other word is now considered racist??? Get a life and let theses things go! What about white cracker. Is that OK? I hate it, but so what????? I don’t see anyone complaining about that!!!!just another excuse to sue!!!!! She did not mean anything by it, drop it!

  348. Most of the support for Capel came from the mind set that her statement was made in jest and any minority that commented that it was no more damaging than when a African American articulates the N word is revisiting the slave master using his special slave to divide and conquer–no allegiance! Three days off but Remember this is Ohio! This is Cleveland–No justice, no respect! KWELI

  349. Jigaboo can also mean dancing a jig, Scotch Irish origins. Give her a break. It’s more racist too reprand her for an innocent remark. That causes more separation of the races. Hillbilly is used openly and no one gets reprimanded for that.

  350. You uneducated twit read the definition of jigaboo it has nothing to do with an Irish jig!! Stop it! It was a racially motivated comment point blank! She did not expect the criticism because of her arrogance!!

  351. I always thought jiggaboo music was what they played when they danced around the fire with there spears chanting and beating drums it is the culture they came from .its less offensive than rap and I always thought it would be cool to dance around a fire with a spear and im not even a spear chucker mother fuc;;;;;;
