Back when it was announced that Senator Rob Portman, a Michigan law alum, would be giving the speech at this year’s graduation, there was plenty of outcry and concern over Portman’s decidedly long and fervent anti-gay rights voting record.
One graduate organized a protest to walk out of the ceremony when Portman’s speech began. Last Saturday, he did just that. 100 of his classmates joined him in support.

Although I do not agree with a lot of the republican view points, I support Sen. Rob Portman on this issue 100%. GLBT will force you to see what they see even if it means that your view points doesnt mean anything to you, nor them, GLBT does not care about how you feel, only what they want. My morals and the way I brought up my children DOES NOT line up with GLBT and therfore GLBT view points DOES NOT mean a thing to me.

@ Donald Horn………..Mr. Horn, please explain why not agreeing with you (or the political Left) makes you an ass-hat. What precisely is it you think is being wrongly discriminated? The GLBT community has the exact same rights as the hetero community. I can’t marry someone of the same gender and neither can the GLBT community. What you support is a new or additional right. One that the majority of people do not agree with. Here’s a question for you. Why is the GLBT community unwilling to defer to the majority? The marriage question has been defeated where ever it is put to referendum. Yet, you would rather see a court of 3, 5, or 7 justices make law for 40 milllion people. That’s hubris, sir. Tell me, not counting the last 50 years,what great thinkers have supported gay marriage? So all the great religious, secular, military, political, artistic, business and scientific thinkers of the last 5000 years have missed the obvious “rights” of the GLBT community? But thanks to the Left wing seminaries,of the last 50 years, otherwise known as Universities, we are now enlightened? Most people that oppose gay marriage would be fine with Civil unions. But marriage is a bridge to far and should be reserved for the hetero community. It’s not about not liking gays. Most people have gays in their family. I certainly do, and I love them all, dearly. The community at large needs and should function by standards, not emotional pleas.

Throughout centuries and all religions of the earth, there hasn’t been one instance of where same sex marriage was condoned, advocated or sanctioned. So why is it that all of a sudden we are expected to accept it? Is it because we have given birth to brilliant new thinkers and social philosophers? I think not, far from it. I believe that it’s an effort to somehow sanitize an ugly and sick practice that goes against the laws of nature.
