Before ‘roided-up sluggers and crybaby millionaires ruined the game, baseball used to be fun. Fans can still catch some of that pure, unspoiled joy on display in minor-league ball — like at the Lake County Captains‘ home opener against the Hagerstown Suns tonight. “The focus continues to be player development, but wins don’t hurt either,” says Brock Richards, the team’s promotions director. “One of the best things about minor-league baseball is that it is easy to interact with the players and see their progression up close and personal.”

The Captains are also focusing on keeping fans happy with giveaways. Tonight: Shortstop Brian Finegan gets bobbleheaded.
