- A lucky man is a man with lots of wires and shit
Remember that Keith Emerson and Greg Lake concert that got canceled last week, 40 or so minutes after the show was supposed to start?
Of course you do. You’ve been defending their proggy crybaby egos all week.
The concert has been rescheduled for May 5 at Lakewood Civic Auditorium.
If you were supposed to be enjoying Emerson’s super-sized keyboard solos last Thursday, your ticket is good for the new show.
A batch of new tickets will go on sale at 10 a.m. Monday at livenation.com, Ticketmaster locations and by phone (800.745.3000).
But if you’re planning to go to the show, hire a babysitter/call off work the next day/buy $75 worth of pot at your own risk. A fan who went to last night’s show in Annapolis wrote us: “As the lights were dimmed, we were greeted with a disclaimer: Greg is fighting a throat infection, so please bear with him as he fights through it.”
And the set list for the show reveals that Emerson and Lake played only 11 songs.
Then again, they were 37 minutes each … —Michael Gallucci (follow me on Twitter @mgallucci)

…and AGAIN!!!!!!! Last night in Alexandria,VA at The Birchmere, anxious fans waited hours in line, and at the moment the box office was to open, we were greeted with… oh no, but, oh yes – “Ladies & Gentlemen, we are sorry to announce that Mr. Greg Lake is too sick to perform in tonight’s show. Tonight’s performance will be rescheduled for May 9.” WELCOME BACK MY FRIENDS… TO THE SHOW THAT NEVER BEGINS!!!!!!!
We were at the Annapolis show. Lake’s voice was really rough at the beginning, almost like Howling Wolf; it improved as the night went on. He doesn’t have the high notes he had in the 1970s, but that is to be expected even without the infection.
The performances overall were a little rusty, but pretty solid.
Lake got completely lost playing bass in the middle of “Pirates”, and then found his way again.
My wife, not an ELP fan, liked the full-length Tarkus, which is saying something.
It was a bit disconcerting to hear them playing along with a prerecorded bass/drum track in a few places.
Their stories rambled a bit, but that will tighten up as the tour goes on, and they also took questions from the audience, which was nice.
wow finally a positive review. glad to hear it. hope the Nokia goes off tomorrow night. Shite Happens!
I have tix to the April 3rd cancelled Ridgefield, CT show and am awaiting word for possible rescheduling to May 8th….I’m not too hopeful, as Keith cancelled the Ridgefield, CT show back in June of 2008 due to an alleged hand injury… What next? We will see if this comes off…
Gallucci is the asshole here. Go ahead and quote “sources” that won’t give you a name, or feel free to make shit up so you can have your superiority complex moment.
While the original show should not have been canceled in the way it happened, Emerson and Lake are getting along just fine. Any stories of this being about a backstage tantrum are simply false.
