In what’s shaping up to be a majestic, cinematic moment for Cleveland’s football community, Denis Leary (the antithesis of majesty, but…) has signed on with the Draft Day cast. He’ll portray fictional Cleveland Browns coach Vince Penn.

The movie will pit Leary’s character against the team’s general manager, played by Kevin Costner. Per IMDb, “The manager of an American football franchise struggles to acquire the number one draft pick for his team.”

The original screenplay had the film revolving around the Buffalo Bills, but Ohio’s motion picture tax incentives reeled the crew toward Cleveland.

Part of the film will be shot April 25 during the NFL draft, but on-site filming in Cleveland is expected to begin later this spring or in the summer.

  1. It’s really a wonderful movie. The Browns all band together and try really hard, learning a lot about themselves and life along the way. Unfortunately, they finish 4-12, the coach gets canned along with all of upper management, and moviegoers head over to the nearest bar to drown their sorrows away.

  2. in other news, the owner will be played by DENNIS! himself. The movie ends with everyone in the stadium dying because DENNIS! tried to microwave some food wrapped in aluminum foil.

  3. has the movie draft day still filming or has it wrapped up? Please advise Thanks!
