I know I’m not alone when I say I hate Creed. But I really hate Creed. Especially their asshole singer, Scott Stapp. Last week, the band officially announced their reunion. It’s news many of us have been fearing ever since that asshole Stapp left the group five years ago.

There are many reasons I hate Creed: They’re Christian rockers who hide their Christianity. They sound like Pearl Jam, who I like, but they ripped PJ’s style years after PJ really mattered. And Scott Stapp is an asshole.

Remember when he took off his shirt and preened through his band’s awful videos like he was a rock god? Remember when he got drunk onstage and couldn’t remember the words to his own stupid songs? Remember when he got into a fight with 311 at an airport (this made me like 311 more than any of their songs ever will)? Remember when he released that sex tape with Kid Rock? (I talked to Kid Rock the week all that was going down; even he acknowledge that Stapp is an asshole.) What would Jesus think? He’d probably think Scott Stapp is an asshole.

Since their split in 2004, Stapp released one solo album, the not-at-all-well-received The Great Divide. The rest of the band continued on with a new singer as Alter Bridge. They’re pretty awful, but not nearly as awful as they were when Stapp was fronting them.

Creed are now recording their reunion album, which is probably going to suck. After that, they’re going to tour so anyone who still cares about them can pay way too much money to see them sing their terrible songs. (The Cleveland date is on August 26 at Blossom Music Center.) Following the news that Limp Bizkit is also reuniting for a new album and tour this year, 2009 is now shaping up to be the shittiest year ever for rock music. —Michael Gallucci

  4. What a total dick you are, Galluci. One of the sheep. Jump on the “I hate Creed bandwagon.” No big deal. They will still sell out every show and you will still be a talentless hack who works for a shitty newsweekly. Do you even get paid or do you do the work a monkey could do for free?

    And by the way, Kid Rock told me that you are an asshole. Guess that makes it true. Oh wait, maybe he was talking about some other worthless music critic. Who knows?

  5. You have no reason to hate Creed other than the idea that it’s cool to do so. My guess is you’ve never even listened to anything but what they put on the radio, which we all know is never the best material. Not to mention the fact that yes, he was an asshole back in the day. He’s supposedly changed a lot (even the rest of the band who hated his guts have forgiven him). Don’t you think as a human being, you owe him the chance to prove himself this time around? I’m sure if someone were to dig up your past, everyone would call you an asshole too. Oh wait, this article pretty much says that already.

    Lastly, they are not a Christian band and they never were. Since when does having religious beliefs mean you hide your Christianity? Just because they’re Christians means they have to be on a Christian label or that makes them assholes? Frankly, only two of the members are even religious that I know of.

    Nobody’s an asshole here but you. I’m just as skeptical as the next guy, but come on… at least let him make a fool of himself during the reunion before calling him an asshole. People go through rough times and change a lot.

    By the way, Jesus would forgive… apparently something you know nothing about – and he didn’t even DO anything to you personally. If the rest of the band can forgive and forget, then who are you to criticize?

  11. Creed was good only because of Tremonti. After seeing them in concert in 2002 I really realized how big of a Douchebag Stapp is. Alter Bridge was amazing because it combined Tremonti’s guitar work with a real rock and roll voice. Gallucci, your opinions on Alter Bridge come from a hatred of Creed. Fine, but you obviously never gave Alter Bridge a chance. I dare you to argue with me that Blackbird wasn’t a real, true, Hard Rock album.

  12. Holy cow. If you read the comments listed on this page, which happen to echo most other opinions about creed, you can see that they are all OPINION. The problem is that everyone (on both sides) seem to state their OPINION as fact and that is entirely unfair.

    Do I like Creed? Yes. I think their music is good quality material. That is my opinion and if I voice it by saying “Creed is awesome and anybody who thinks otherwise is an ass…” then I am being an ass. Having an opinion doesn’t make you an ass hole, but hating on people with different opinions than your own, now that is being an ass hole.

    If you think Creed sucks, then say “I think Creed sucks” or, “in my opinion, Creed sucks”. To declare their ‘suckiness’ as fact is way too subjective a thing to say and expect to be taken seriously.

    I have for quite some time hated the music of Nirvana. I know, I know, thats crazy, you say. I just did not like their sound or their content. I have thought “Nirvana Sucks” for a while now, but I was wrong to have ever (as I did) label them as no good. They made an impact on a lot of people as a great band with skill and that proves that they were successful, on some level, at winning respect, fans, whatever. Even if I don’t care for their sound (I do now, by the way) I was shallow to mistake that for ‘sucking’.

They have kicked more ass,toured with more people than any music act that you think rocks and most of them are just “acts.” They rock out an album almost every two years and still tour the country in summer and in the fall. You are a douche and surely do not have taste in music. You must not actually listen to the music or the lyrics and you probably have never been to a 311 show. 311, fucking up the dancehall since 1988. Fuck the nay sayers!
