Your commute sucked this morning, we know. Ours did too. The Shoreway closed this morning for the filming of what had better be an elaborate, high-octane highway chase scene in Captain America 2, and will remain closed for two more weeks.

Like responsible 21st century citizens, we’ve taken our frustrations promptly to the digisphere, where we’ve found solidarity and censure from our Cleveland brethren.

And a weird but sort of predictable thing happened: What was first almost unanimous angst and bewilderment — why, for instance, was the city’s only emergency measure a few traffic cops? — morphed into chiding from both the “deal with it” crowd and the “let’s buck up and find alternatives ourselves!” contingent.

Here are some tweets that run the emotional gamut:

  1. People need to STFU and get over it!! Be glad someone wants to come to our city and spend their money here with us!! This is great for our economy!! Most big cities have nightmares for highway traffic to begin with we only have it for 2 weeks and it is gonna give us much more back then the trouble it is causing us right now!

  2. All of you asshats had a month’s notice this was coming! A month to find an alternate route, prepare to leave earlier, etc! And as is said above, this is going to bring many, many millions to our city, as well as work for some people for the next few weeks! Good for the local businesses, good for our city, and good to be in the news for being in a movie versus setting our river on fire! Suck it up and be glad our normal commutes are so mild and easy. It’s only two weeks, people. Grow a pair and NUT UP!

  3. There is absolutely no proof that this is “great for our economy”. Prove it.

  4. I’m sorry, that picture with the line “you’re really going to regret this during the 3rd captain america movie when a new super villain from west cleveland makes your life a living hell” is absolutely hilarious, lol.
