The second of Asdrubal Cabrera’s homers last night was initially ruled a single. Upon first view, the umps couldn’t tell if it cleared the short fence in right field of Fenway Park, and the ball ricocheted hard back into right, so it seemed like it had to have hit something very hard to send it careening back so violently.

Instant replay, of course, confirmed that the ball did clear the fence, and the object that it hit was not a railing or a seat or a concrete step, but a woman’s kneecap. Witness the evidence on her leg:

  1. Gee, all those guys surrounding her trying to catch the ball and it hits the one person, trying to avoid it, on the knee. Amateur fans.

  2. I would have thought that the surrounding guys would have loved to “catch a bahl in the yahd”.

  3. Based on the beer cups near her, she may not have felt much during the game. I suspect she has a limp today though.
