Travel + Leisure mag, that recognized arbiter of all that’s cool, has deemed Lakewood cool enough to land on its list of top ten cool suburbs worthy of a visit.

What with all the churches and bars, how could it not be the coolest? What other city provides the most practical and convenient locations for both committing various sins and then apologizing for them in the morning?

But that’s not what drew Travel + Leisure’s eye.

  1. A little leary of the author. Did he actually visit Lakewood? I mean how can a city that borders Lake Erie be an inner ring anything?

  2. The suburbs that border Cleveland are inner ring, dude.

    That said, I wonder if the author has been to Lakewood. It’s a dump- tons of low rent houses, crummy schools, ethnic difficulties, and fratboy central on Detroit at night.

  3. Lakewood a 10 coolest suburb? Reallllllly?? Most times it’s like living in your own personal episode of Cops and having lived there for 5 years I was MORE than happy to get out…
    Mostly full of stupid white trash…

  4. I don’t live in Lakewood, but it is cool. Lakewood Park is beautiful. There are some cool restaurants. And it has the feel of a vibrant, inner-ring suburb of a major city. Sure, there aren’t rich families raising there kids there like Brecksville or something. They are renting out houses in Lakewood. Who cares? There is a ton of character and life.

  5. If you mean cool by having THOUSANDS of hipster dooshbags posturing and spouting on about what they learned in their hs civics lessions about free speech.(oxymoron peoples)
    Or the crazy mean lakewood cops, DO NOT do ANYTHING to provoke these psychos….
    Or the rampant crime…Remember the drunk dude trying to evade the same cops in an older model Lincoln Contenental that ended up destroying a beautiful older car?
    Or how about the brother sister dual that beat up and robbed an older person at the Lakewood public library…
    Just because Melt was started here and there are a few neat high rises does NOT make this city a top 10 city in America….
    A note….The people of Lakewood are NOT all that friendly either….Just sayin’
    Lakewood likes to put on airs but sadly falls short…
    They are no Pepper Pike, or Bratenahl, or Orange, or Beachwood, or Solon…
    They’re juuuuuuuuuuuuust Lakewood the wannabes…

  8. You should all be ashamed of yourselves. We finally get some positive attention from the media and you just can’t wait to tear it down. Cleveland/Lakewood is what you make it and there are a lot of people working hard to make it a great place. We don’t need you here anymore. Go move to New York City and be negative there.

  9. Whether you like or dislike Lakewood, the thing to keep in mind here is that a publication named a CLEVELAND suburb as one of the top ten in the nation. How you like them apples, Forbes? You and all your stupid “worst cities in the nation” lists can suck it!

I’m from Lakewood. lived here all my life. it’s an amazing city and I’d never want to live anywhere else. for those people that say it’s horrible here, obviously have never actually spent any time here. it was named ‘best place to raise your kids’ for reason. as for the whole crime issue and hipsters every place had them. ever been to Chicago? New York City? enough said. people that say beachwood and solon are better?… you’re just jealous your city want mentioned. I love my town 🙂

  11. I have lived here for most of my life as well. At one time, I was very proud to say I lived in Lakewood, OH. Not anymore; can’t wait to get out. The property taxes are ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS here, all because of the school system. While I understand a good school system is important to a community and real estate value, I have HAD ENOUGH of my property taxes going up EVERY THREE YEARS SINCE 2010!!!!! The voters here just passed ANOTHER SCHOOL LEVY in May of this year and NOW….there is a proposal to put a bond issue for the schools on the ballot in November!!!!!! In years past, I never, ever was afraid to walk alone in my neighborhood in the evening, sure wouldn’t do it now. What I see walking up and down my street in broad daylight scares me to death so forget walking in the evening. Could go on and on about what I think of this city and how it’s run but won’t. CIRCLING THE DRAIN says it all.
