Police in Mentor say that Erin Hendrix, 28, tried to poison her infant daughter over a period of more than a year.
The disturbing allegations seemingly get more disturbing the more details that are released.
The infant was 5-months old at the time when Hendrix began mixing lead nitrate with her food, prescriptions, and other items that came in contact with or were ingested by the child.
What occurred from Februrary 2008 to July 2009 has led to 22-counts being brought against Hendrix, who pleaded not guilty to the charges and is free on bail.
This article appears in Sep 29 – Oct 5, 2010.

What the report fails to mention is that since the child has been in CPS custody, the lead levels have not decreased at all. There is no proof that the high lead levels were caused by food poisoning, or the fault of the parents. This family has done all they could to lower their daughter’s lead levels, and followed all professional medical advise. Some medications prescribed to reduce lead levels actually caused them to rise. They brought their daughter to the doctor often because she was born deaf, missing part of her upper intestinal tract (so she needed to be tube fed), and had to have a tracheostomy tube so she could breath. She was born with special needs, and they wanted to provide the best care they possibly could for her. It also does not mention that this family now has a second baby, that is in their custody, and is perfectly healthy. Also, the family moved around because the father was a pastor with the Methodist church. If you are at all familiar with the Methodist church, they typically have their pastors move around every few years to serve terms of 1-3 years (I suppose so that they do not become stagnant). The family moved to Wickliffe because when the charges were brought up and their daughter was taken from them, they were forced to move out of the church parish and find an apartment. The father lost his job, home and child all at once — and now could possibly lose his wife due to false accusations. Having known this family personally for the past 5 years, and the father for the past 10 years, I can say that they are some of the most caring, loving individuals I have ever met. They would never do anything to harm any child, especially their own daughters.
This story is very misleading. *previous post is provides some clarity*
The disturbing thing is not the nature of the case, but rather the media’s presentation of the allegations as solid historical facts. From the article, “The infant was 5-months old at the time when Hendrix began mixing lead nitrate with her food, prescriptions, and other items that came in contact with or were ingested by the child.” Where is the word allegedly? What happened to our freedom of innocent UNTIL proven guilty?
The above post eloquently states what is disturbing here – the blatant disregard for due process and the attempt by the media to convict this family in the court of public opinion.
The child had a birth defect that prevented her from swallowing, so toss out the word “injest”. All the articles also forget to mention they have another toddler who is perfectly healthy. I hope the Lake Co. authorities are investigated in this because there is an equal chance that they are corrupt.
Other Side, you are as bad as you claim the prosecutors are. You accuse them of convicting her in the court of public opinion, but you are declaring them innocent before any information is released. Police and courts do not give details because they want to, but because they have to. Everyone is entitled to the information. It’s called the Freedom of Information Act. You should get out more and breath fresh air. Maybe then, you won’t be so hasty to prescribe to conspiracy theories. The police found sufficient evidence to pursue a case, which they turned over to the prosecutors. They felt there was sufficient evidence to take it to court. There may have been a grand jury invovled too. Now just think, all of those people felt it was worthy for a judge or jury to decide her guilt or innocence, but you, in your infinite wisdom, does not. Doesn’t make sense to me? Then low and behold, a reporter comes along with nothing better to do, and files a FOIA claim against the court, which responds legally and responsibly to it by releasing the info. Yeah, big conspiracy. Guilty or innocent, she will get her fair day in court on the allegation
Don’t you think that having another healthy child says something? I would. You can take out environmental factors all together now because the other child is healthy. Maybe, she wanted to get rid of the sickly child altogether. Maybe, the police/prosecutors have more information than you have? Probably so…
I spent 4 years in prison w/ Erin Hendrix. She’s a very odd individual and would run around the track for hours until her feet bled. She trained dogs that always seemed to be ill…She took a lesbian lover and the sociopathic narcisstic energy doubled. Definitely GUILTY!
