Starting Monday, Tim Bando no longer will be the chef at Deagan’s Kitchen (14810 Detroit Ave., 216-767-5775, deagans.com) in Lakewood. For the time being, he’ll be working at Marigold Catering, the unofficial halfway house for chefs in transition.

“We knew it was only a matter of time until he’d want to do his own thing,” explains owner Dan Deagan. “We were happy to have him for 13 months, and I learned a lot from him and Kyle learned a lot from him.”

“Kyle” is Kyle Nagy, who takes over as executive chef next week. “Kyle’s ready to step up,” adds Deagan. “He’s been with us since the beginning. I think it’s going to be a seamless transition.”

Other changes at the popular west side gastropub include a new menu, which debuted last night. “It’s kind of a greatest hits-type menu,” says Deagan, adding that it combines old favorites, new favorites, and some new creations by Nagy.

Vincent Sanchez holds the reins over at Humble Wine Bar, Deagan’s other property.

  1. Sad to see Bando go, but I am glad the menu is changing, possibly with some old favorites. The menu under Bando was good, but he kind of lost me with the mediterranean vibe that everything seemed to have.

  2. Thanks Doug. Glad we can assist in their re-integration to society… and happy to have Tim on our team, even for a short while.
